I'll d/l another file and see what happens.

    Back to normal now.

Oh well, the extra speed was good for a few files :o Must have been a mistake at the other end

What is your sync rate? On the router if you have one, or connection speed on modem

    I have a modem.

How do I find the sync rate?

If I hover above the 2 arrows it says:-

    TX: 448 kbps
    RX: 7264 kbps

    Is that it?

Yes, thats upto 8Meg. You've probably had a free upgrade.

How bizarre :o My d/l speeds are back at around the 2Meg mark now but still the same sync rates.

    I've not had any mail/e-mail saying i've had a free upgrade :o

    Here's a question.

When doing broadband speed tests, where do they get the info from? Your modem?

If that's the case, my modem - voyager 105 seems to be capped (judging by a google search)

If I upgraded the modem, would I see benefits of...

    TX: 448 kbps
    RX: 7264 kbps

    ??

Seems bizarre as i've always assumed I was on the 2meg connection I was upgraded too a few months back

Speed tests upload/download data from your pc, and time it. Not sure what capping you are referring to, it is syncing at 7, which isn't capped.

Apparently my Voyager 105 modem has a max speed of 2mbps which may suggest that if my connection is upto 8meg, why i'm not getting fast d/l speeds.

I've tried checking my AOL account details online but it tells me very little as to what tariff I am on.

I pay £9.99 p/m and have always believed it's 1meg and then for the past few months, 2 meg.

Well, that's that theory out the window then :rotfl: Thanks malamute :p

It has totally confused me (not too hard) as to why I gained approx 100kb/s over my AOL capped limit of 2meg and now the whole sync thing where Loaner thinks I may have been upgraded to 8meg (Or could that be saying what the max the modem is capable of?)

AOL is telling me nothing - just lots of blank information.

I'll try again tomorrow (and hope I get some more faster d/l speeds!)

Well in all the time i have had broadband all at 8MB (Talk Talk, BT and finally the worst of all Virgin) i have never had anything like the speed your quoting downloading going by your figures at 7MB :j.

Just checked mine and i'm downlaoding at 1.8mb on a 8mb service.
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: help.jpg -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1840 kbps

Carry out the speed test from the BT site BT Speed Tester and lets know what you get.
