Rude, pressurising tesco!

Went into Tesco a couple of days ago and as I walked in there was a couple of men at a stand. I normally walk past but as I was in no rush and they seemed to be selling a Tesco product, I stopped when he approached me.

THey were selling dental insurance and he asked me when my nest appointment was. I said next week (which is true!) and he said, oh well this takes a month to be set up so make an excuse up like say you're ill and rearrange it. He then started saying all these facts and numbers at me and I said well have you got a leaflet for me to take away and have a look at?

He said here, and passed me his laminated card and said all the details are on there. I politely said oh I'm sorry I don't like to make snap decisions on thing like insurance in a supermarket and he looked at me like I was stupid and said why.

I replied that I like to read things over and weigh up the costs and benefits before commiting to something like this and he pulled a face and looked at his colleague who did the same and said "well that's a bit boring isn't it". He didn't say it in a jokey way, he said it as if he thought I was really boring and stupid for doing so.

I felt really soft and taken aback and felt my face going red (i get embarrassed quite easily). I said well I don't know but I like to make sure I'm 100% before making financial decisions and he just went oh ok then, quite snotty and turned to approach someone else.

I was so shocked at such selling tactics inside a Tesco store. I expect it on the street and I don't normally stop on the street but I thought it would have been different inside one of the country's biggest supermarket chains.

Anyway, I didn't like the fact that he made me feel so stupid and made me go red and just wasn't expecting it!

I should have told the customer services in hindsight that they were being a bit rude to people, because at the end of the day, I was quite interested but just wanted to read the fine print and check it out before I signed anything.

I hate that sort of thing, people seem to be pressure selling all sorts of things everywhere, the train station near me is always full of people selling insurence or checking if you have ever had an accident, and they make you feel rude if you don't want their product...

  • Well yeah that's exactly it! You can tell me what your product is, i'l mull it over, if I want it, i'll buy it, but I'm less likely to buy if you try and force me to!

We have just been to Tesco at Irlam and have been subjected to the same pushy selling from a rep wanting to sell us Dental Insurance. I walked off and left DH to tell him no. Sounded like quite a good deal but would need to read everything about it properly.
  • Maybe they just cant sell the dental insurance so have told the reps to be mega pushy!

I just say "thanks but no thanks" and walk off. I don't give them chance to even enter a conversation, I go shopping to buy things not to be harassed into buying energy, insurance or anything else

I take the same attitude at my house, its my home and I dont want to be disturbed by any sales, I can make my own mind up and way the pros and cons without any pushy salesman on commission
  • Wow yeah, at my house is a different story, I get so angry ,lol. I can't think of anything ruder than going to someones home, knocking on their door in the evening and badgering them about buying something. You kind of expect it out and about but I just can't see how that it even legal to approach people's homes!

Well I dont like the parasite Kleeneze (MLM) brigade either, I expect people to read the notice at my door, I dont buy anything and thats the way I like it.

I also dont answer suspicious calls, but I do check who they are and add them to my phone address book and name them `nuisance call` and assign a annoying ringtone so I dont have to even get up from my chair :)
