Not sure whether to post here or in my home so posting on both (sorry if I'm wrong)
For the last few weeks the signal on our 'paid for sky keeps disappearing (for 4 hours today) but it's OK on the freeview channels. Done all the usual (turn off at plug etc) but still keeps happening. OH rang sky and did a systems check and they said it was OK so would have to send an engineer out at £65 (gulp - luckily he didn't agree) OH wants to pay to get it sorted and refuses to let me cancel so do any of you kind folks have any idea whta the problem is?
Many thanks

clean the card?!
when you switch back to pay channels from free view do they still not show??If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
We had similar problems and took up the sky man at £65, i thought it was the signal but realised it wasnt because the multi room was working okay.
our box was knackered and the skyman just exchanged it for a reconditioned one which was covered within the £65 so wasnt too bad.
Had we got someone independant in to try and fix it they wouldnt have been ableto and then we would have had to get sky in too. It solved the problem anyway.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
yeah.. my sky HD box has given up the ghost... started with breakup on some channels, then got considerably worse, and worse.. sky man is coming tomorrow to replace the box with a refurb one for £65.... a bargain really0

I've not personally known anyone not get Sky to offer free repair once you tell them to cancel the lot. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0

This happened to mine too. After reading some website about digi and Sky boxes, someone advised to give the back of the box a blast with a hairdryer. It worked!0

You know, if you had called Sky and told them your box wasn't working so you wanted to cancel, they probably would have given you a new one for nothing.
They wanted to charge us a £60 call out fee for fixing our box, but when we said we'd rather just cancel, they soon changed their minds.0 -
heres a tip that might work as well for you as it did for me.
I emailed james murdoch and told him how dissapointed I was that sky was trying to charge me £65 for a repair to my sky box and it was dissapointed to see how they valued there customers.
I got a call from sky the following day offering to repair it for free

Yeah, but unfortunately I don't want to threaten to cancel, because then, if they didn't do that, i would be left with no subscription, and still in the situation of having a non working box. £65 for a replacement HD box, (and dish & LNB) i think was quite a good deal!

I guess £65 is a good deal for all that, but when it comes to letting customers cancel over faulty hardware, it's a no-brainer for Sky.
At the time we were easily paying £700 a year to them, so it makes more sense to replace our box for free (which costs them a fraction of what they charge for it), rather than have us stop paying them.0
