I'm using mothercares shaped terries with Spud, I bought 20 for £20 from ebay and have found these to be better than the all in ones. I use them with a bambinon mio lilner & a junior joy wrap, no folding. A-I-O's I've tried so far are motherease, cotton bottoms, bambino mio & boots own brand and they have all leaked so far, although I think with the boots own brand it is beacuse they are too big so not given them a fair trial yet.

my baby has fat legs so the all in ones don't leak on him. i've tried kushies (we use these more than anything else although splodge doesn't think they're very absorbent and he wants changing every hour or two), boots own and prowrap. i did buy some bambino mio prefolds but the wraps were tiny and didn't fit splodge, i use the prefolds inside various wraps though.

by the way if anyone wants my 3 newborn (up to 11 lbs) bambino wraps let me know, i bought them secondhand so they're not white or new looking, they've had a lot of use but might be worth looking at if you're considering using the bambinos.

  • maybe we should start a nappy swop thread....
The problem i find is they're just sooo expensive even second hand ones me and OH are on a really really tight budget so if i hadn't of been given the nappies i would probably just carried on using disposables.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts
  • I agree, they are very expensive. Not in the long run but the initial outlay. Even second hand on Ebay you can expect to pay over £100 plus P+P for a complete set.

However, I'm still determined to use them and just need to fish through this thread and pick the best info and decide on what type and brand to buy, what amount and where to buy from...simple as that!

i agree they are expensive initially, i just bought single nappies off ebay mostly. a few packs of 5 used kushies for around £15. if you buy a single nappy or two, it's usually only the cost of a packet of disposables. i bought mine gradually, one or two a month while i was pregnant.

i would offer my used outgrown ones but they're not complete - i use the prefolds from my bambino kit so i can only offer the newborn wraps and i use the wraps from my littlelamb and modern baby nappies so can only offer the shaped nappy. they won't fit together, the bambino wraps are really tiny, so my stuff would only be of use to somebody who already has some stuff and just wants extras.

  • That's partly why I think it may be easier (but more expensive) to buy a complete set - just in case things don't all fit together properly. I'll keep souring Ebay and have just signed up to freecycles, so I'll hopefully find something soon!
  • of you've signed onto freecycle you should put a wanted ad out thats what i did and got 3 offers for nappies, if u dont get any responses u haven't lost anything!!!

  • Did it 10 minutes ago! Hopefully I'll get offered something, will be a good way to "try before I buy" and see what works best for me and baby.
  • ordinary terries are the cheapest way to go, usually and should last to potty training (unless you have an enormous child like mine who doesn't seem to fit into any nappies any more!)

Lollipop advisors are a great way to go. Someone will come out to your house and let you try different kinds. They sell a variety including nice breathable waterproof pants to wear with terries. Much nicer than the plastc ones at Mothercare and no nappy rash! (They were also very cheap.) http://www.teamlollipop.co.uk/
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

    Hi,

forgive me if I am putting this in the wrong forum but I was hoping you kind people could give me some advice? I am currently pregnant with our first child and due end of January. I want to use washable nappies and have had a look into it but there are just so many different kinds, makes etc I am way confused.

Does anyone have any advice as to the best ones to get? Ideally, if blessed, I'd like them to last through a second child. How many should I get and in what sizes? What else will I need?

Boots are currently selling a Cotton Bottoms Birth to Potty pack for £269 plus 5000 extra points which contains the following:

    24 Polyester Nappy Wraps:6 Newborns,6 Small, 6 Medium, 6 Large
78 White Modern 100% Cotton Reusable Cotton Nappies: 24 Newborns, 24 Small, 18 medium, 12 Large
    5 Large Rolls of Bio-liners
1 Small Waterproof Nappy Changing Bag
1 Pack of Re-usable Baby Wipes
1 Pair of White Cotton Training Pants
    1 Pair of Swimmis
    1 White Bucket with Lid
    2 Packs of Nappy Bright

Is this pack a good idea? And would there be enough nappies in it assuming I wash say every 2 or 3 days?

Thanks so much for the help.

    Judi
