I knew this selling was going to be a pain in the ....

Sold last week some toys they reached £40 for 6 2nd hand toys to me this was far more than I had expected and silly really unless they know something I dont!!
1st they said they were collecting and kept changing the day they had 1 feedback but I am patient and everyone has to start somewhere. Their latest change of collection was to be today but I had not heard from them. Then today I get a payment via paypal for the full amount including postage this is a full week since the auction finished and guess what the address is unconfirmed
so I have just refunding telling them to either confirm their address with paypal or they can still collect cash on collection (note this was not stated in my listing as I am sure someone will point out it is not allowed I just told the person via message as their feedback was so low I would like cash on collection)
do you think I am being unreasonable I suppose I will end up with a neg because of this they will think I am being awkward. but there is no way after they have messed me about I am sending £40 worth of stuff to unconfirmed.

Maybe because they were busy and didn't want to mess you around (anymore than they already have!)so paid for delivery....if i got a lot more than expected I would've been straight out to post, confirmed or unconfirmed....£40 is not a massive amount and with proof of posting you would only lose a few quid should it go "missing" in the post. I think a chargeback is unlikely in this case. My opinion only.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

cannot send via proof of posting as it has to go via courrier so in the event of them claiming against me I would lose because the courier would say they delivered and have proof yet paypal would say as it was unconfirmed my proof is worthless

The toys were all from the past couple of years belonging to my my 3 yr old some V tech and disney total cost was 49 inc post I know for a fact 1 toy was bought in asda for £6 a small elc phone probably was less than £10 new the others ranging from 10-15 new so why someone would pay nearly £50 for 6 toys all used and some marked as clearly described in my listing is beyond me  maybe they just got carried away

sounds odd then, I thought you may have had some obscure 80's toy in there that bumped up the price

No they would not. What is this mania for confirmed addresses?

    From the PayPal user agreement:
PayPal Claims are not covered by the Seller Protection Programme. For more information on winning a PayPal claim see the Buyer Protection Programmes section of the Agreement.

    and
Please note that eligibility under the Seller Protection Policy is not a requirement to win a Claim filed by a buyer under section 13.

Section 13 is about PayPal disputes. The Seller protection seller protection programme is not the flip side of the buyer protection programme; it has nothing to do with PayPal disputes. It is only relevant if the buyer pays with a credit card. Other than that, it's essentially meaningless.

As usual I will disagree with you Marty J. OP, you are correct in that sending an item even tracked to an unconfirmed address you will not be covered against a paypal chargeback for item not received.

By "PayPal chargeback", do you mean a PayPal dispute?

Disputes and chargebacks are two different things.

And it's not me you're disagreeing with, it's PayPal.

Do you think I make all this stuff up?

Sooooo confusing so whats the difference between a dispute and a charge back then?
Incidently this was the same buyer that had their address listed as channel islands last week( I did post about it) but they said they were in birmingham I just checked the original Item sold email and the address was one in one borough of Birmingham and the paypal address is in a totally different borough even the name is a different one

No reply about my refund as yet

I am talking about a straightforward chargeback for item not received where the seller is not a powerseller. I realise the waters are rather more muddied where seller has further paypal protection due to being a high level powerseller.

Claims for non receipt can be avoided by tracking to a confirmed address where other criteria is also followed.

Chargebacks for fraudulent use of a card cannot be covered against by non powerseller, but you do still have legal redress if you choose to do that outside of paypal.

A chargeback is when the buyer pays with a credit card and then reverses the transaction.

A dispute is when the buyer files a dispute with PayPal, which can then be escalated to a claim, which if successful would then lead to PayPal refunding the buyer.
