Pension cash in high return term deposits: 59%
Investible money/ pension funds / managed funds: 18%*
    Investment / retirement property: 20%
    Liquid cash: 3%

Increasing monthly by about 1.5% as I rebalance the total portfolio by putting all new surplus cash into pensions / managed funds / share-based investments etc.

I would say that this part of my portfolio is around 80/20 in shares / corporate bonds with a geographic spread something like this:

    UK 40%
    North America, including Canada 20%
    Europe, inc developing Europe 12.5%
    Developed Asia: 10%
    Developing Asia: 10%
    Aus / NZ 5%
    Latin America 2.5%

    ish . . .
  • Im here to bump again as I find this thread interesting.Anyone changed their slant at all and changed to other sectors? What funds are you in?I still havent chaged, couldnt due to finances but looking to invest some more again soon.
  • Im looking to offload some of my corporate bonds and top up with Uk small cap and high yield bonds.
May increase exposure to the US and might lob in some to asia pacific as well.

In contrast I saw a report today that the UK was heading for a double dip recession so am unsure to go fully through with my above decision and may reduce exposure to the UK

First time on here please be nice to me (as I generally don't know what I'm talking about :o).

Interested to see you thinking of Asia Pacific - I've had great performance from there this year & have just invested some of OH's ISA there but am beginning to wonder if it's time to take profits? Problem is I can't decide where to go instead....

I only have 1 UK fund. I don't really understand why they are so widely mooted - if we were in Finland for instance would our experts be saying invest in Finland? Personally I feel I have enough exposure to UK markets by living & working here.

    At present my pension is:
    Artemis UK Special Situ 24%
    FP European 24%
    Newton International Growth 7%
    FP Pacific Basin 26%
    FS Asia Pacific 19%

Just stopped those in red & sold NIG, had stopped contributing a while ago. Started up FS Global Emerging Markets & M&G Property, waiting on 1/4 figs in Jan to see how they are doing.

I think the 'old' adage of having a high exposure to the UK is primarily to safeguard novice investors from currency fluctuations, and lesser so to be able to better know about what company (for example) you are investing in. So yes, if you lived in Finland then people would suggest a high exposure to Finnish investments.

In todays world with most of the FTSE100 (and wider stocks) achieving a lot of their revenue from abroad the case is pretty mute (my opinion).

At the moment I am very much in cash (overall probably about 25% of my investment monies are actually invested).

Longer term I favor resource/commodity based investments together with Far East, Latin America, and the BRIC countries. This is a high risk approach/strategy.

Oops, quoted me whilst I was updating - I do have one UK fund (although it performs as if it doesn't exist....)

Had thought about knowing the companies angle but not currency,,, learnt something already so thanks.

I hold the same long term view, unfortunately my co pension is with FP, who have a limited range of funds, so it's a trade off between right sector/poorer fund or different sector/better fund. I'm happy enough with a high risk approach at the mo as I have a fair few years to retirement, also have property investments so see this as a top-up.

If your under 40 nothing wrong with that spread, Gallygirl, have a bit more confidence in your own thinking, reading a few of your other threads you seem pretty sensible.

When this thread started we were even split between physical gold, NSI Index Linked (IL) and Cash ISA's, + Premium Bonds (PB) for rainy day.

Now we are 6 gold, 3 IL, 1 ISA with the same PB fund.

Not any great need for our rainy day funds, just undecided what to do with them, so leaving as is for now. Look forward to a bump in 6 months.

    Best of season to all.
