Yeah defo! .... I am having doubts about going this year, a part of me wants to have a year to work, get savings up a little etc, but then I'm not sure how that would effect my student loan the next year, I'll have to look into it all very soon :D!

i in a similar situation, though slightly older, left school at 17 tried 6th year but didn't work, and did a course a tech for dental nursing, hated it felt very unchallenged and the dentists treated you like you were a simpleton.

I decided to start studying with the open university whilst working and then had a baby last year and thought it was now time for me to go to university which is what i always wanted, i have applied to do law in September using my OU credits to get in. For me university is a very personal thing, i have always been treated as inferior by people who went to "proper" uni, and i believe i am more intelligent than about 99% if them, 12 A*s at GCSE, i just left 6th year due to health problems, and have been a member of MENSA since i was 12, but because they have a degree they are MUCH more important and intelligent than me. Im going to university to get a job that i want and i hope i don't eat my own words but to go to this up themselves graduates, "a first wasn't that hard to get".

sorry that was a bit of rant, but is something that affects me. If you think you can do better then do better, don't let people try and keep you down so they feel higher, like dentists did to me.

Yeah you have a decent job, but if you think that you can serve or earn better that way, then why not?

Nearlly at the end of my course now (end of may), and I'm on target for DDD which I'm really pleased with ... but I'm more excited that I have now accepted my Uni place and start in September! Really happy! Just need to not let myself slip and make sure I get the DDD grade :D.

Go for it! You only get one chance in life so you must do what you want and what makes you happy. After all, money is just money...

I have been at uni for 6 years now and won't finish until I am about 27-28. I have NO money, no assets, astronomical student debts, I haven't been able to afford a hair cut for about 2 years, I haven't been on holiday for 10 years. I still rely on my parents to buy me food as I have no way of paying otherwise. After I finish I will get a job that will pay about £25,000. Do I care? Not one bit! I am doing what I love and what I am interested in doing. I start my uni work at 8am everyday and finish at 2am - I love what I do so the time flies! I will be at least 30 before I make a start on saving for mortgage deposit etc. and it will be years before I become totally financially stable but I honestly don't care about having nice cars and fancy clothes so I don't worry about it. Obviously a stable income is important, but you're young enough for it not to be the deciding factor in making choices about your life. You must do what makes you happy.
  • Well, this will be the last time I post in this thread as I finished my course a few months ago but just today I have received my certificate with my grading!
I got Distinction Distinction Distinction which is the equivalent to 3 A’s at A level when you look at the UCAS points!
I’m over the moon and going back to college was the best decision I have made in my life, not only did I get the qualification from my BTEC but also managed to get level 2 in both English and maths.
    Cheers guys for everything!!!
  • Well, I just thought I would post a little update seeing as this threads over 3 years now! Can't beleive how fast it went :O. Well after college, I got a part time job and also studied a few GCSE's at college which I messed up at school (managed to get A in GCSE English woo) and then, in two days time ... I'm off to Uni!!. Can't beleive it really, but really happy and shows anything is possible really and go with your gut feeling :D!
