Hi everyone!
My family are having problems ringing me at the mo as our line rings twice then dies to nothing. We have no problem at all making outgoing calls, it's just incoming ones.
I rang TalkTalk who said try removing the filter and trying to ring the line from our mobile, which we did, and it worked. I tried a new filter as we had a spare, but it's still not working.
Does anyone know why this has happened? I have a sneaky feeling it's only since we changed to TalkTalk landline, which is a worry..esp as I've heard since that their service is dire. Don't fancy shifting back to BT (even more scary an option ).
All advice welcomed! Thanks in advance
Lucy

If you have a master socket split into an upper and lower half, remove the lower half and plug a phone, (corded if poss) directly into the test socket. If your phone works ok now then it's something up with your own wiring/filters.
If not then it's talktalk's problem to resolve.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Have you got a filter in every socket that is used or otherwise in the house? Not always essential in sockets that are not used, but worth sticking one in to check.0

I thought it was the postman who always rang twice.
Maybe OP has exceeded their REN.
Not wishing to cause panic or alarm but guess who actually comes out to fix your 'Talk Talk' land line.
Clue: Its not anyone from talk talk. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Erm, quote my previous post -
"Help - buzzing on phone when connected to broadband .....Ever since we got broadband, when anyone uses the phone, it kicks us out of the internet and we have to wait for it to reconnect. Or did - nowadays it seems to say 'unable to establish a connection' and we have to reboot, which is frustrating to say the least.
Our landline phone had broken so we got a digital cordless one with a couple of handsets yesterday - they buzz like crazy when we're connected to broadband (most of the day) and so we're going to have to do something about it, but I don't know what - other than installing a new socket for the pc? Hopefully there is something else we can do that is cheaper, I wonder if anyone can help please? As I have no idea what to do really!....."
God, is there a limit to how much help someone can ask for???!!!
That was related to broadband connection for me and how phone calls threw us off the landline. Different problem altogether, thanks for checking all the same. I sorted that out by moving the phones round and reconnecting the filter.
People can't ring us. Our broadband is working fine thank you for asking.
Thanks for all the HELPFUL replies! The woman at Talktalk had me try the test socket, which I did with and without the filter - still didn't work. So I plugged it back into the frontplate without the filter and tried again from my mobile and it STILL doesn't work.
Apparently, they can send out an engineer but they will charge £140 for call out if it does turn out to be the frontplate, which is a little scary. Our wiring isn't exactly conventional as there's an extension involved, it's the only way we can connect to the landline and broadband as we only have one BT socket, so I'm hesitant to call them out in case they say it's related to that - which I sort of know it's not as we've never had a problem...until we changed to Talktalk!
I'm about to reread the replies now, as I didn't take them in properly first time. Just felt I had to response to the comment about me supposedly exhausting my query quota...
Thanks again to everyone else though!

Oh god, not BT?!
I have been wondering about shifting to another landline provider - could it be just a TalkTalk landline problem which might be cured by shifting would you think? Not that it's the only reason to move mind you.
What is REN btw?

Fancy that! I am still debating about moving to Talk Talk. At present have landline with Primus (free calls evening and weekend £10.50+calls, last month 36p) and never had any problems with them. BB is with AOL @ £9.99. I keep reading criticisms about Tiscali (a definite no no) and a few about Talk Talk so am starting to think....if it ain't broke etc.. and not worth the extra £5 saving.0 -

I remembered your last cry for help because after five different posters answered your thread, you could not even be bothered to return to the thread and update us!
