ebay to only accept PayPal in future

I found this while reading my news feeds this morning. It looks as if, in light of Google preparing a global payment system, ebay will now only be accepting (drum roll) - PayPal - as a "payment processor". This link takes you to the Google Rumours page, with links to ebay user forums, and to the policy itself. Just a FYI for all you Nochex users out there.

heh, i'll be leaving ebay when this happens :-)
I WILL NOT accept paypal for large transactions, FULL STOP,
i cap 'em around £30 or so, anything else is bank transfer / cheque / nochex
if people dont like that, then dont buy from me, i'm the one with 540 excellent feedbacks, i'll negotiate the transaction how I want, money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I prefer Paypal anyway - its less messy and very quick. I know some ebayers have had difficulties with PayPal I have not found a problem with them.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0

Note the page where this "information" is found is the Google Rumours page. I'd take it with a pinch of salt at this stage. With Paypal fees so high, and problems recently with trying to process non-fee-paying Paypal transactions, I suspect members would defect to other auctions sites in droves if this were true. I'm sure they wouldn't attempt such a radical move without at least doing plenty of market research first.0

Last week I posted about changes to the payments methods of ebay.com which were not rumours but fact. Under those US rules no online payments apart from paypal would be allowed, however, all other forms of payment would still be acceptable.
So apart from nochex users, even if the new US rules migrated to ebay.uk no one would really notice the difference.
EDIT: There was one other payment method change and that was that US sellers will not be able to solicit for cash, but could accept cash if a buyer asked.

What about online bank transfer? Is that not an online payment?
Also fair enough hardly anyone uses Nochex now, but at least the option was there.
One other question, has / does anyone use Eggpay for ebay transactions?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
theres other options... nat west and yahoo have payment transfers and im sure a few others have them planned (maybe hbos?), they just need to stream line their processes to be more accessible like paypal:santa2:0

At the moment any form of online payments are acceptable on ebay.co.uk and there is no certainty that the US rules will ever migrate to the Uk and stop that.
The real problem is that whilst sellers try to wriggle out of their responsibility to buyers by refusing to refund for lost parcels (see some of the other threads on here) then buyers will choose to pay by paypal for the protection it offers.
Sellers can offer whatever payments they like, but buyers will always want to use the safest method.

Soo,
Sorry but that is a rather naive statement as you should know. Maybe it should have stated "buyers will choose to pay by paypal for the perceived protection it offers"
And, no, I am not overtly anti-paypal but I have had problems on at least 3 out of approx 100 transactions where I lost money (even though they found in my favour)."Success is not to be measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed."
