Also re the bank account - I have a Step Account with Natwest which I opened on-line. I've been happy with it - it does everything I need it to.
You could also try Co-op. I think you have to ring them though but it seems a popular account.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Hi DID
Thanks, I went into Natwest today and enquired about an account, assistant started to open me an account, I didnt have any ID details with me (didnt know what they wanted been a long time since ive opend an account) as I was only enqiring. Have an appointment to go back again tomorrow afternoon with my ID so hopefully all will be ok, I checked they offer online banking which it does and it also offers telephone banking.
I was offered a 3 month free trial at some other account other than a basic account but I declined, assistant was rather surprised I think, said it was free for 3 months and then I could cancel and not be charged the £12. fee. I said very politely no thanks not even 3 months free will convince me as its no use anyway, I dont travel on holiday anywhere dont have a mobile worth insuring and dont need breakdown cover so thanks for trying but no thanks!
I hope I can get the account as I was honest when she asked me why I wanted to open a new account when I only have benefits and have bank accounts elsewhere. I told her because I was just starting a DMP and have been strongly advised to open a new account at a bank that is not connected to any of my creditors.
Not sure if thats what I should have said or what they wanted to hear but she just took it as not a problem, didnt question me any further thankfully.
Bonus as well as there is a Natwest nearer to us than the one in town, although still not walking distance.
But I simply cant tell a lie and have learnt its better to be open and honest than tell a lie and be caught out in future.
If that fails I will try Co-op and maybe tell a small fib
Many thanks.0 -
Co-op are bankrupt friendly so you won't need to lie to them! You get an Electron debit card with it too.
When I opened the Step account on line, I didn't need ID and it was all done within a about a week. The account is a basic one and as far as I am aware, they don't do credit checks. It comes with a Solo card which is useful for online shopping etc. You should be ok with opening it; it doesn't come with credit facilities so you can't get into debt with it, so would be surprised if you get refused.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

No need to tell a fib to the Co-op. They offer their Cashminder account to bankrupts (one of only 2 banks to offer an account to bankrupts.) They offer phone and internet banking and an Electron card with the account. You can also make deposits into the account in any post office so you don't need to have a branch near you. They are an excellent bank and they are very ethical.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0

Hi

I will also take a look at Natwest online account.
1 question though, how do I make deposits to an online bank account?:o

Hi from a newbie!
I have decided to go with a DMP with Payplan to try to sort my debt problems and have a question!...after working out how much I have to pay my 'essential' bills, I have around £200 spare..BUT out of my essential bills I have included £400 a month I repay my father, money I owe him. Payplan say this amount may be disregarded by my other creditors as it is not a legal agreement!
Is there a way to safeguard this repayment to my dad?
Thanks!0
