Rikki, neither had I until now.

My OH goes to college one night a week, so I get to cook for (or should that be torture) her. She thought they were delish !

It's the only real time I get to cook so I like to try different things.

I also do a fish tikka using trout on the barbeque. I'll dig out the recipe if you want.

Yes please. I think I would grill them as I don't bbq very often.

Rikki, as promised last week here is my simple fish tikka recipe. It's cobbled together from several off the internet, my family seem to like it.

    175ml natural yoghurt
    1 tsp lemon juice
    1 tsp chili powder
    1 tsp Paprika
    1 tsp garam masala
    2 cloves garlic (minced)
Pinch salt and black pepper to taste
1/2 inch piece of ginger chopped fine
    1 red chilli chopped fine
2 fillets of trout, salmon, haddock, cod (whatever you have in).

Place all tikka ingredients into bowl and mix well. When all ingredients are combined add the fish and mix to ensure thorough coating. Place in the fridge for a few hours to marinade (I would say at least 3hrs but I have prepared it the night before and left overnight to soak up the flavours.

When read to cook either oven grill on medium heat or BBQ for about 10 - 15 minutes.

    Enjoy.

    Hi looby,

I just put some lemon slices into the cavity, season it with black pepper, add a knob of butter, wrap it in tinfoil and cook it in a moderate oven for about 25 minutes. They're also great grilled or cooked on a barbeque.

There's an earlier thread with lots more suggestions that should help so I'll add your thread to it to keep the ideas together.

I'd recently just purchased some trout that was on sale and I froze it. Then the other night I put it in the tray of my steamer with veg and potatoes in the other stacked trays.

Steamed the lot and added nothing but black pepper it was lovely.

we are having trout fillets tonight. I usually just sprinkle with lemon juice and black pepper and grill them. I serve with couscous flavoured with lemon with peas in, and veg. We often have salsa on the side otherwise it can be a dryish meal

    Hi thriftbabe,

    Welcome to MSE :)

I like trout cooked very simply. Pop a couple of slices of lemon into the cavity and cook it wrapped in foil in the oven.

There's an earlier thread with lots of ideas that should help:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

  • I agree with putting it in foil in the oven, but as well as puttin gin the lemon, i also put a tiny knob of butter, the lemon, a crushed garlic clove and a sprig of rosemary. it's delicious with some veg or salad!
