B Gas Boss says "wear two jumpers"
A gas firm boss faced a heated backlash yesterday after telling families struggling with soaring fuel bills to 'wear two jumpers'.
Jake Ulrich of Centrica - the parent company of British Gas - was attacked for his 'flippant' and 'out of touch' remarks.
The 55-year-old, who earns more than £1million a year, was accused of having no sympathy with his cash-strapped customers. His firm warned yesterday that gas bills could rise to more than £1,000 a year by 2010.

But he has a point!:cool:0 -
The trouble is though - what do we do? - How can we get round these bills?
Why are they going to be so high? I just can't get my head round it?
The Jake Ulrichs of this world just haven't got a clue how bad it's going to be.

It's funny how with every other way that people can lose money, they take a stand, but when it comes to gas and electric, no one movess a muscle, they just pay the bill and moan about it.
Look at the backlash the banks got from charging penalties.
Why does it not happen with the power companies?
Thier bosses take huge sums in bonusses, such as the guy mentioned above, a £1M salary, it's just obscene. Gross enrichment.
Thats why we have to pay these increases, to ensure that the bosses and major shareholders keep their massive bonuses, dividends and salaries.
Surely it's time that these power companies absorbed some of the rising costs.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I think its a much better idea for him & all his cronies to take a huge wage cut !0

He does have a point though - the majority of Gas usage is for heating not cooking.
'You' must admit that in winter you're inside wearing just a t-shirt or blouse and the heating on!
however coming from someone earning so much is just an insult to everyone's intelligence during these difficult times.0 -
i work in houses where the owners leave all the rads on full blast all day - it's like working in an oven -0

i wont have my heating on in the day however cold it is. keeping busy and walking the dogs keep me warm.
a lot of people wear t-shirts and shorts in winter and have their heating on full because the're cold!
so yes put winter clothes on and become active and stop being cold in body and bank balance.
i agree with him!0 -
i don't know about winter - I'm cold sitting here now in the middle of July!
I've got my fleece on top of t shirt and jeans and my thick walking socks and still cold
It's my bloomin' hypothyroid I think? Is anyone else cold or is it me?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I kind of agree with what was said its just when it was said and who by I dont agree with.
I know some people that have the heating on all year and walk round like its the sub-tropics all year round. Think that may well be changing soon though.
Its difficult to see Jake Ulrichs point of view while his head is still stuck up his @rse.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
We're nearly 1000ft above sea level up in the hills and I'M FREEZIN !0
