Totally agree with you on the soda crystals, I'm just saying how can be sure your using the right amount. That's what soda crystals do so I CAN BE SURE
, and just saying cos it does doesnt really answer my question ...
Was she using the correct dosage. Even if she measured it out correctly, she may be dosing for wrong hardness (easy mistake)Also my mums washing machine got blocked with washing powder and the guy that came out told her to cut down on her powder or move to a liquid as powder clogs and can break down the machine ...
I assume your saying I dont make sense, I find myself perfectly clear, so do most people (even if they don't agree...). Your the one not making sensehmm dont think thats quite necessary as far as i can see everyone on os has plenty more sense than some
havent proved a thing sorry
Bizzymummy, how much/which powder were you using
COME ON PEOPLE, surely its obvious that manufactures would actually tell you to use LESS. For example, if a 10 wash box costs £2, if they tell you to use half, so a 10 wash box could contain FIVE WASHES AT THE OLD DOSAGE, but still be sold for £2, as it still does 10 washes!
Simple really
Also, limescale on the element, whether it causes breakdown or not, increased the energy used to heat the water/takes longer=higher cost=NOT moneysaving!
- http://www.electronicdescaler.com/index.php?content_id=16 (yes I know it is a link selling descaler but the facts are pretty accurate!)Research has shown that just 6 mm of limescale can reduce energy efficiency by a staggering 40%Im a kiebee buzz,buzz!0 -

Umm - manufacturers would tell you to use more because that way they sell more..... and so increase their profits ..... they are in the business of making money. Why would they then decide to halve their profits by telling us to use less? (well, due to scale of economies and taking into account fixed costs, selling half as much would actually reduce their profits by more than half, but thats just complicating matters)0 -
should the op or anyone else have suddenly panicked that what they have done for years may not be correct  then indesit make this:
http://www.espares.co.uk/lime scale-detergent-remover
I would recommend using half the amount or doing every other month:rotfl:
I still think OP should think back to his/her chemistry lessons.
my machine does not have a heating element to get limescale on and any that may have the audacity to even think about settling on my machine is swiftly dealt with by vinegar;)

You have got your maths wrong.
if 10 washes =£2 then by using half it would be 20 washes =£2
not 5 washes!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Hi
I use half a scoop - I know this because I was so anal I didn't stop until I found the perfect half a scoop! It turned out to be a mini Christmas pudding pot that now goes from the end of my powder box to the next one. The powder I use is ASDA lavender 3 in 1 or Tesco whatever is on offer.
Its enough to get things clean - and in addition to my normal load for 4 people in the family I have:
Football kit x 1
Swim kit x 5
Gym x 2
Gymnastics x 2
Aerobics x 3
Camping smelly cubs stuff - too much
So my machine is used alot - always with half a scoop of powder, never with calgon, and in a really, really hard water area I think its a bit of a bonus.

you think that makes sense?! You're perfectly clear? Dont think so.:A0 -
Sigh

Trow, It's simple. Say if Persil sell a 10 wash box of powder (1kg) for £2, and tell you to use 200ml per wash. If they then change that and tell you to use 100ml, they can sell a 500g box (HALF THE AMOUNT!!!), as a 10 wash box at the same price (i.e double cost-double profit, without overcomplicating things!:D)
So, your washer only washes in cold water???annie123 wrote:my machine does not have a heating element to get limescale on
Providing the vinegar you is still strong enough to dissolve limescale after it has been diluted considerably in the wash (hope you use lots and lots!). Remember that soap is alkaline, vinegar is acid, acids + alkalis neutralise each other to create water + salt. This impairs the wash results if you but vinegar in with your wash, Basic chemistry, now who needs to think back...any that may have the audacity to even think about settling on my machine is swiftly dealt with by vinegar
I assumed you understood English...angelnikki wrote:you think that makes sense?! You're perfectly clear? Dont think so.Im a kiebee buzz,buzz!0 -
So, your washer only washes in cold water???
no it takes hot water direct from the boiler:rolleyes:0 -
How new is your washer, newish washers use very little water, so it fills with cold water left in the pipe.
Failing that, for 40 degree washes, COLD FILL, and for others your hot water will still need some heating.Im a kiebee buzz,buzz!0 -
think it's about time you ''got of your soapbox'' keibee everyone seems to be perfectly happy with what they are doing so just leave it at that. dont think you'll get many converts sorry.0
