Hiya, what advice is on here about that?
Hes away for 6 and a half months but i doubt id be able to go out half way as it lands the month i start my nurse training.

    Hiya

Normally there is a point in the deployment that the ships company get leave and the OH's can go out to meet them. There are packages available through the Navy to help with costs, they don't pay for it but we got a interest free loan taken out of Oh's salary and then we were entitled to about £50 per day for food etc. We were lucky and the leave was in Dubai!! Madee cheaper using all the advic on here about getting cheaper hols, currency etc. Lots of advice on that.

you can always pm me if you want to chat.

We have just been accepted for a free pontins break (thanks for the tip Martin!) and now we cant go as hubby has course on his arrival back!! Forces timing dont you just love it!!

Hi to all other wags xx
  • Hi all,:hello:

My OH is RAF and spent 15yrs at Marham, we've been together for 12 and married for 2 of those.

We don't live in married quarters and he's now living at Cottesmore during the week, he's just been posted there.
No kids but three very spoilt cats!

I love living where we do, just hate all the detachments he's now going to start doing again. He's always missing some event we get invited to!
  • Hello! We live in South West too - Hubby based in Wiltshire, been here since feb this year, and moved down from yorkshire, love it here though, so much nicer that back home, our married quarters are great, can't complain at at all (its our third home together, much cheaper and much nicer).

Hi RAF wag here, just moved from Suffolk where we were there for years! Well he had 3 other postings but went back to Suffolk in between. We finally moved from there in May and he's now near Bedford, we have just bought another house nearby and hope to be here for a while although posting is officially only for 2 years.

I have a love/hate relationship with the RAF, OH has been in from before we got married and we've just had our 21st wedding anniversary (he's in til 55) I try to dwell on the positives about it - he gets paid very well for something he loves doing, we get the children to have a fantastic education (they go to boarding school), we get to live in some interesting places - so far my favourite has been Northern Ireland, OH has got very good at taking time off!

  • Hiya my OH is in the Navy, hes away for a month at the mo so not too long.

He's definately going away though for 6 months next year (dont know where). I reckon it will be so hard as our boys a year now so will be nearly two when he's back and probably wont know who he is lol!!

Any tips on coping for 6 months (Its his first biggie away since we got together but from what his mum's told me it's not nice)

    Hi
How about getting your OH to make a little video for your little boy or a storytape of his favourite book ( army where doing this from Bulford and in Germany), you can also put piccies up of Daddy or a special little album so that YOU don't have to see it constantly. Because at that age you will miss him more than the little one possibly. Involve Dad as well when mine were little I sent him a diary and some photos. A bit easier now you have the ebluey it is there in hours.

My OH deployed 3 times since 2005 last one was hard I had had enough by then. All I can say is take each day as it comes, don't dwell on the day they are too return as its not set in stone. Plan things for yourself so that each month or so you have something to look forward too. If there are other wives around you whose partners are deploying set up a others halves club. My kids and I would not have got through the last tour without my friend who luckily lived across the road.

Don't be afraid to ask for help, don't worry if you cry but what may surprise you is how strong you actually will be.

I hope that all makes sense

  • Hi,
DH is RAF and we moved to Cyprus last week :j . I'm currently suffering a bit in the heat but can't complain really as it's perfect timing for us - we have a little baby so I get lots of quality time with him out here and don't have to feel guilty about not going back to work when my maternity leave runs out! :D

Hey Chick, where abouts in cyprus are you, me and my hubby left cyprus last july was our first posting together, my advice is to get out there, i made the mistake of staying in all the time for the first 6 months coz i didnt know anyone-but then i got myself a job in the bar on camp and loved it from then on... It was awesome and i really miss it.. My OH is in the Army and we are in Blandford at the moment, being posted at the end of October.. Does anyone know what RAF innsworth is like?? Nice to talk to other wags.. people around me in blandford dont talk as im on 21 and they are all older then me, they all look down there noses at me.. I dont think its very nice at the end of the day we are all in the same boat.

    Love Kate xxx
