On that income you are likely to only get Child Tax Credits (the child would keep their DLA, and Child Benefit would still be paid). IS and Carers would no longer be payable.

Carers Allowance would still be paid as it is not means tested.

Yep, you're right, it is the Carer that cannot have earnings above £95 per week, not the household x

If the partner started work as a teaching assistant, so both adults were working, could they still claim carer's allowance.

sorry if it's a stupid question, but I thought you couldn't be working at all to qualify for CA.

Not if they were earning more than £95 a week. They would also need to be able to demonstrate that they were caring for at least 35 hours a week x

Could some please tell how much help we could get from the Goverment if we moved in together?

    The house rent = £3640pa
The council tax is = £1,285.67 pa

I really hope this isn't a post asking if you are entitled to housing or council tax benefit??

You earn £1404pm, your GF is given £1316pm so at the moment your joint income is over £2700pm

Do you think this is a low income?

I would assume as a couple that you would have more spare cash left over than most as your housing costs inc CT is only £410pm, you have a LOT left over.

Your GF would lose only her IS, possibly CTC due to your income.

The question is not a wind up. I just want to proove to my partner that we could a reasonable standard of living by living together.
She is just worried that by living together her allowances would drop dramatically.
As I said she does not work at the moment so does not pay CT or rent, she also gets income support and single parents benefit.

If we moved in together and she did not get a job straight away would she lose IS, SP and have to pay full CT and rent?
I understand DLA would remain untouched.

If she did get a job would she lose the carers allowance as she will be working from 9am - 3.30pm and be earning £12,000pa?

As your partner receives almost £1800 a month is direct benefits and housing costs then yes she stands to lose a lot of it if you live together.

I believe you lose carer's allowance if earnings are more than £95 a week. She would obviously lose lone parent allowance as there would be 2 of you. However with both of you working it will be enough to have a good life and not rely on benefits. DLA will always be untouched.

There was no judgement and no snide comments, as far as I could see.
