As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to the existing thread.

    Hi All,

In a bid to save money, me and my boyfriend are going to start making our own pizza's, pasta and pasta sauces.

I have the flour (strong bread) and the yeast, i just need to know how to make pizza dough.

Also, can it be frozen after being made and then defrosted to make bases as and when we need them?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Kay,

Homemade pizza is lovely and once you've made your own you won't want to buy it again. These threads should help:

Pizza Dough Recipes , Tips and Quick Questions

    Pizza dough in a breadmaker

Freezing home made pizza and dough

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the suggestions together.

  • I have some pizza dough in the freezer ready for tea one night this week, only I keep forgetting to defrost it  Is there a quick way to defrost it ready to bake or will I have to wait another day for my pizza :( It's frozen in a big lump not rolled out or anything :rotfl:
  • maybe roll it out and bake for 5 mins next time before you freeze, then it just needs taking out and topping and stright in the oven :)

tho depending on when you want to eat tonight you've prob got a few hours for it to warm up :)

What about wrapping it well in clingfilm (so no water could get in) and immersing in a bowl of hot water (changing water a few times when it cools ?) x Best of luck!

  • Well, with ordinary frozen pastry that I buy from the shop (not very MSE I know).......I just bung it it the microwave for about 10 seconds at a time, till soft. Usually takes around 30 secs or so.
I can't believe pizza dough would be much different?

I considered this but I didn't want to upset the yeast lol

I might give it a go, I do want my pizza tonight :o
  • Be careful and check it frequently. I once tried to defrost frozen pizza dough in the microwave and ended up ruining it by cooking it a bit. It made it impossible to stretch out as a pizza base.

Could you try putting it in the fridge the evening before? I haven't tried this but I suspect 24 hours in the fridge would defrost it. (Won't help for tonight, I know!)
