So why cant the people posting" bargains", or thinking of buying , Google round themselves, instead of waiting for people to criticize?
Theres a lot of questions that people post on forums ( not just this forum) where answers could be obtained quicker by using Google search. In fact many answers given by people on forums have been obtained by using google search. :rotfl:0 -
oh god, it's a big tv that hangs on your wall and links to your sky box for less than £400... just say thanks and go buy the thing, it's a bargain.
I got a crap one years ago for twice the price and it's the best thing i ever bought.
You only notice the bad picture when you're watching certain films when really dark images are on.. and for a split second you think "what was that blob"... "oh, it was that guys head being blown off".."i'm glad i didnt spend another £600 figuring that out half a second earlier".
great spot. I could do with a cheap tv for our bedroom... if tesco have one i may well be tempted. thanks op.Hating Hastings Direct!0 -
The problem with larger tv is the distance between your sofa and the tv it is recommended for a 42in tv you should be sat at least 4 metres away!! http://whathifi.com/blogs/television/archive/2007/10/16/how-to-choose-the-right-size-of-tv.aspx
To improve the picture on your wii ditch the standard cable and buy a component cable if your tv supports or a fully wired rgb scart. Also to get the best from dvd you will need a dvd player wih HDMI.0 -
Thnks OP for a seriously cheap TV offer which all but the TV snobs would be pleased to have if shopping on a budget. I bought a 42" Wharfdale plasma just over a year ago from Argos for £600 , cheap at the time , got slated by the TV police on here but its been a great TV . Surely if all you`re doing is watching Emmerdale and letting kids play Wii then it`s a great dealThe problem with larger tv is the distance between your sofa and the tv it is recommended for a 42in tv you should be sat at least 4 metres away!! http://whathifi.com/blogs/television/archive/2007/10/16/how-to-choose-the-right-size-of-tv.aspx

This subject has been discussed in the forums a number of times. I have to say I find your guide quite extraordinary. Much larger screens than those you have described can be accommodated at the distances you've shown. This is totally misleading. As many of the forum posters know, I sit 2.5m from my 50inch plasma and find it in no way remotely uncomfortable.
I think this article should be re-written to at least include a comment that, should it suit your room and your aesthetics you can accommodate a much larger screen than suggested in the guide.I`m now officially too old to die young0 -

Component will be better than RGB SCART. Dealextreme.com have Wii component cables for about £4 if you're prepared to wait two weeks for delivery from Hong Kong.0 -
There will be a big difference in the audio quality between cheap and expensive sets. Its ok if you want to use external speakers, however, if this is not a practical solution, then you should get a big name set. I personally dont think picture quality will be a big issue. When you sit 3m+ away, then they all look quite similar.0

dear dear £399 for a 42'? That is daft. Can i just point out, that as nice as it is to prevent a huge strain on your wallet for buying a cheap tv, you will not be getting the full picture and actually wasting more money.
1. Cheaper tv's arent energy saving unlike better brands, so can be costing more money to run
2.Cheaper tv's are rebranded chinese models made with inferior conponents.
3. Picture quality is inferior. Even better models like Beko are also inferior. The cheap models are not even good enough to display standard resolution never mind high definition.
4. Sound quality is inferior. Cheap models utilise Nicam Stereo, which means the tv's sound very 'tinny'.
5. A couple of years back, there was an article in a Which? magazine which recommended that you stay clear of non-descript brands and so called 'supermarket specials'. They said that they are low quality and products which are trying to be sold of quickly,in other words- crap and they're probably factory seconds. That is why you never see the same product again.
Please do spend more on a brand, at least you know you get a trusted respected brand and a service and spares backup, that the cheapo's dont have, for example my nan bought a cheap Maxim cretin and within 2 years had 2 failures. Its now been replaced with a Samsung which the sound, picture and overall build quality is much better.0 -
we had a look at this in edinburgh and were told it was out of stock and they had no idea when it would be back in. tesco really bad for not having special offers in stock though.0

Let me just address some of your points:
1. Cheaper tvs cost more to run - fair enough, but you'd have to have your telly on 24/7 for the next ten years to recoup the extra cost of the telly.
Other points. My friend has a brand new BMW. I have a couple of year old zafira. In every way here car is much better than mine. it looks better, the seats are more comfy, its much more trendy looking, the engine sounds nicer, its got an mp3 player in the stereo (i have a tape player). I fully accept that mine is inferior in every way. But the thing is, my zafira is ok, it does the job its meant to (ships me about) in relative comfort. I can listen to my tinny radio ok its not prefect quality, but its fine.
My point is that in every part of life there are very high quality products that we would all prefer, but sometimes the cheaper models are fine too!0 -
we have had this tv for a about a month now, and it has been great.
sound is very good, picture great, and the boys play the WI on it and it is fine.
as had been said before, it would be great to spend £2k on a telly, but as most of the time your just watching standard stuff on it, what's the point.0
