ASDA and Morrisons new 50p items

I used to work in ASDA until recently and found that WHATEVER the offer was (before these 50p deals) they just didnt get enough in! They said this was outwith their control but i find it really annoying and believe they should restrict these per person like Morrisons did. I never had a problem getting the offers from Morrisons and hope they do something soon!

I'm not a big fan of rationing to one or two per customer. Offers are only worth putting yourself out for if you buy in bulk. I wouldn't have bothered going for one of each item. I miss out on things sometimes but just think I'll have to quicker next time. Although buying, say, 50+ minces would be OTT.0 -
Is this definite for Morrisons on Monday? I was shopping in Asda today, didn't know there was any special prices on, and certainly didn't see any...bit peeved now!
Jules
Jules,
I can confirm that it is definately on at Morrisons from Monday, although not sure what the items are as yet. As soon as I get any further info, I'll let everyone know.0 -
Yep, I think it may be your imagination or you are just lucky that the things you like or on special offer.
I bought a box of rice from Lidl about a week ago and it was 89p which was quite a bit cheaper than Tesco. Great! I thought, went in yesterday and it had gone up to £1.19, a 33% rise.
Bought a Roberts loaf in Tesco the other day, was about 85p if that, today it was £1.26!
My husband is rubbish at shopping and hasn't got a clue about prices but he was gobsmacked when I told him of the price increases.
We aren't talking about 3% rises but 33%+.
It all adds up.
I'll tell you a secret..
We always used to spend around £60 a week on our weekly food shop, we always bought the "big brand" items. I don't know why but around 6 months ago we started buying the own brand stuff and our weekly shop came down to around £30. Strange thing is that a lot of the own brand stuff actually tastes better than the "better" stuff. And if you look at the packaging it is actually better for you ( I may be wrong but I think it was a health thing that made us do it)
The money we have saved is in a bank account. I think there is over £600 in that bank account just from money saved from food shopping... try it, just for one week.. whats the worst that can happen?
do I sound tight?
I should edit this post quickly shouldn't I!!Hating Hastings Direct!0 -
I think using supermarkets own brands is trial and error. ITs not such a big loss if you try them and don't like them. But I have to agree that a lot of the time they are a lot better. Morrisons own beans and sausage are lovely and just 29p for a large tin. Less than half the price of Heinz.
Its funny how things don't go up by the odd penny now...its normally at least 20 or 30p. It does pay to shop around!0 -
I dot buy less big brand and more own brand now than I did before I had children etc but there is some stuff that dh just wont eat unless its brand like ketchup and mayonnaise. I do spend about £50-60 a week on shopping which I dont think is too bad considering I also buy nappies and have 3 children at home all day and a dog..as for energy bills ours have gone up a lot despite using less and making the kids wear warmer clothes..lol
Dont think there is any point in me trying the asda barHUGE THANKS TO MAXIMOUSE THE HAMSTER ANGEL..GOOD KARMA IS COMING TO YOU!

thanks
Jules
ps. I agree the burgers and sausages were very tasty!0 -
me too, i agree that the meat was yummy!! would love to know whats on the offer monday, see if its worth getting up and out early before they all go.
I love the idea of 2 per customer at least everyone gets a fair chance of getting a bargain, not like the people that have been buying 25+ items in asda leaving everyone else losing out.Greed!!!0 -
