ASDA and Morrisons new 50p items

I'm really loving this "credit crunch"... morrisons are about to open a new super market in our area which means that they are lowering their prices in their existing store... in the hope of enticing new customers. This is annoying tescos.. they are retaliating..
Tescos have opened a convenience store just a couple of hundred meters away from where the new morrisons store will be, and that's really cheap. Other shops in the town are finding it hard to compete and are adjusting their prices accordingly.
Sainsburys are trying and have the odd blinding deal.
I swear the media are playing their part by saying everything is getting more expensive... my gas and electric is £35 a month each and has been for the past 12 months.. it hasn't changed in 2 years.. petrol is the only thing that has gone up.
Is it my imagination or is food actually getting cheaper?Hating Hastings Direct!0 -
That's the thing with the Asda 50p items they always sell out early:/Darren0

Couldnt see this posted, they are at it again, think Morrisions is an ongoing one. Did search but couldnt see this posted.
Asda will drop the price of 12 core groceries to 50p for this weekend. The cost of a basket of the products - including iceberg lettuce, mushrooms, sausages, eggs and butter - will fall from £11.24 to £6. Morrisons is cutting the price of eight lines to 50p for a week from Monday. These include ham, cheese and tomatoes.
Sorry no links only saw the above in a newspaper website.
Is this definite for Morrisons on Monday? I was shopping in Asda today, didn't know there was any special prices on, and certainly didn't see any...bit peeved now!

Yep, I think it may be your imagination or you are just lucky that the things you like or on special offer.
I bought a box of rice from Lidl about a week ago and it was 89p which was quite a bit cheaper than Tesco. Great! I thought, went in yesterday and it had gone up to £1.19, a 33% rise.
Bought a Roberts loaf in Tesco the other day, was about 85p if that, today it was £1.26!
My husband is rubbish at shopping and hasn't got a clue about prices but he was gobsmacked when I told him of the price increases.
We aren't talking about 3% rises but 33%+.
It all adds up.0 -

We took the price fix offer with British Gas a couple of years ago, it ends in 2010.
We are going to be in for a big shock.0 -
Just been to Asda (about 6.15 a.m.). Offers are not very well signposted and there aren't many packs there, apart from the bagels which we don't like anyway. Finally found the mince, and there were only a few packs left. The mushrooms at 50p worked out dearer than the large tub of economy mushrooms which in fact looked fresher than the offer ones. If you don't get in early you won't get any offers - just a pr campaign I think.0
