Heat Wheat Bags - homemade?!!

Hello all - i have heard that you can make those wheat bags (alternatives to hotty bottles...better cos there is no chance of scalding etc??)

Anyone have ANY clue how one would go about this?? I have no idea - is it some "special" kind of wheat which you have to buy from specialist shops or can you get it from health food shops etc??? Seriously - i KNOW its really vague but my mum suffers from terrible bad backs and i thought if you COULD make these, its be a lovely pressie!

Hi i use these wheat bags for my bad back and tummy i know nothing about making them but i do know that at dunhelm mill store near where i live there was loads of them in baskets near the till for £2 or £3 dont know if it helps you but thought they were a great price seeing the first 1 i ever bought was £7 they are fantastic much better than hot water bottles

bigmomma051204 I've seen somewhere instructions on how to do this, but I can't think where. I'm sure you use normal wheat, or the place where I saw the tutorial said you could use rice instead. They looked quite simple to make. I'll have a think and try to figure out where I saw it.

I made some a few years ago when the prices were a lot higher for the ready made packs in the shop, and i opened a commercially made wheat pack and took the contents to a local pet shop who identified it as a normal wheat a very large pack think it was 5 kilos from there was less than the postage alone from the online store.
Now they are so much cheaper to buy not sure its worth the effort to make them

Hi - I know its cheaper to BUY them but i figured as a nice Unique and Personal pressie to my mum i'd make one.....i have loads of lovely material left over from other projects including loads of cath kidston scraps which will go into the bin if i dont use them as patchwork for something so thought this'd be the perfect opportunity!

Does anyone have any idea how much a bag of wheat costs lol - will have to see if Asda do any in their Smart Price range!!!!!!

i made a load of these for xmas gifts last year.
big rectangular ones for your aching neck etc and pairs of tiny ones to fit in your pockets as hand warmers. every one loved them.

i bought a HUGE (25kg)bag of wheat from countrywide for a few quid and you can make loads with that!
