Carpet Sweepers

Just came across this old thread and wanted to agree about the Gtech rechargable sweeper, I've got one and its fantastic.
I only get the dyson out every few days for a good clean, but in between I use the Gtech. All my family one have one now and none of us would be without it.0 -
I decided a while ago that I would look out for a carpet sweeper like my mum, auntie & nan had when I was a child after seeing saw a lady carrying one at a car boot sale.
I have been keeping em peeled ever since & have just picked one up this week in a charity shop for £2.00. Spent a chilly hour in the garage this morning with the anti-bac & defluffing it & have just christened it. It works fine & has briought back so many childhood memories of "helping" Nan with the housework. I am hoping that over time the £2.00 outlay will more than pay for itself in saved electricity costs.
Does anybody else out there have a carpet sweeper which they use? Would enjoy sharing your thoughts & opinions. Thanks x0 -
i do have one but couldnt use it as a hoover replacement i just dont think they pick up well enough, i generally use mine to go over where my kids have been and entrance hall:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

I agree, there's no substitute for a good vac through, just gonna use it for a interim spruce.0

my mother in law swears by hers
only time she dont use it is for the stairs
and she has a hairy dog to clean up afterupon the hill there stood a cow
it must of gone as it aint aint there now0 -
I bought one in Argos the other week for a tenner and I'm pleased with it. I use it in between vacuuming, especially just for small areas - I make such a mess of the carpet in front of the settee where I sit sewing and dropping bits of thread, biscuit crumbs etc
There's only me at home now so I don't need to vacuum everyday so a quick run around with the Ewbank is fine.0 -
We live in a three storey house and I have one which I use when I can't be bothered to lug a heavy hoover up two flights of stairs!
It reminds me of my nan too, she never owned a vacuum cleaner and as kids we were always fascinated by the carpet sweeper!0 -
i think that is why i got mine because of my nan hers is ancient i used to race around with it when i was little:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

I'm another who's Nan had a carpet sweeper, I also bought one at a boot sale over the summer for a couple of pounds having been on the look out for one all year!
Ours sits next to the cupboard unit in the living room so it's easy to pick up to deal with odd bits of dirt and I do use it to avoid having to get the heavy hoover outPiglet

Piglet, its sounds like a good idea to me that you keep yours handy - might house mine somewhere close like you do.
One thing which has just occurred to me is that it might cut down on vacuum cleaner bags, as unfortunatley my vac isnt bagless.0
