Oh, first time I've ever started a topic, is it usual to have a fear of it being ignored ??? ::)
Anyway, what I wanted to ask is, what do people think, assuming you can remember them, of old fashined carpet sweepers? You remember, that manual vaccum cleaner type thing on a broom handle that your Grandmothers all used to have?
The reason I ask is that the one housework job that I totally loath with a passion is vacuuming so hubby is assigned this job. He will do it once a week but flatly refuses to do it more often as "it'll only get dirty again" (!) but between him, the (persian) cat & the dog it really needs doing more often at least in the heavily used rooms . I think the reason I hate vacuuming is that it's such a faff dragging the vacuum out, constanly having to change power points, being deafend by it in the process (OK, I admit it, I do most of my housework dancing to sounds of the 80's cds & I can't hear them over the vacuum cleaner!) I think I would be more willing to whip out one of those sweepers & flick it around, it's the sort of thing I coudl do whilst waiting for the kettle to boil etc. Does anyone have one? Are they any good for pet hair? Are any particular brands better than others?
Any & all comments appreciated (Except about my dancing to Wham!)
Cheers

I used to have one infact I've owned and worn out two in 15yrs. They are excellent for pet hair, powders, biscuit crumbs etc. Better on carpet than solid floor and usless at edge to edge cleaning but for a daily whip round they're brill.
I'd get a manual one and burn off some calories while doing it rather than the new leccy ones. Ewebank and Bissell are both very good. Look out for a model that has two dirt pans cos they pick up on the forward and backward sweep, the ones with just one pan only pick up on the forward sweep.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

Definitely excellent at pet hair, good for day to day cleaning, but you'll still need to vacuum at least once or twice a week0 -

no, and if we ever do on here, just bump it and someone'll reply.0

Yes I like my sweeper, it was £10 from Argos but they're usually going at car boot sales for a couple of quid. I use it to do the rugs in between 'proper' vacuuming. I have seen ones that have edge brushes, but I don't know how well these work.0

The ones with edge brushes that revolve worked ok on my bissell (may he rest in peace) ;DLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Forgot to say, Carpet sweepers are great for picking up things you want to keep, ie when you drop and whole tub of pins or beads (Mrs Man does bead craft)Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Anyone tried those rechargeable stick cleaners/brooms that you can use on hard floors and carpets? ???0
