Im not saying its definately them - But theyve already admitted that their cats need de-fleaing and no-one else has been in the house for two weeks. No-one at work has pets so im making an assumption that is the most possible cause.

    Im not being a b***h!

Hi Guys - anyone tried the flea catcher ?http://www.martleyelectronics.co.uk/pestcontrol-insect.html#flea_killer_trap

Stupidly I slacked on the regular treatment of our darling dog and I believe he now has them (can't see them, but he's scratching and so are we) I have dosed him with the stuff from the vets (advantage 250) but I want to get rid of those in the carpets etc - esp my bed YUCK!
I'm really nervous about spraying with checmicals = although the one in the thread looks good. If the catcher is any good I'd prefer to use that - but if not I'll have to go for the spray. I'd prefer not to get the council in as all my neighbours will gossip if they see the van, and being a single mum I think they think the worst of me anyway :(

Also - if there are any on you when you bath would they then drown in the water? (currently want to stick everyone in the bath and hold under water until de-flead, lol)

  • Best bet, telephone your local council and explain the situation. They used to come out and spray your home for free, maybe a small charge now, not sure. It's well worth it tho'. They request you do not hoover your home for as long as you can bear after the council visit. It even kills the fleas on the cat (without using any pesticide on the cat, just the cat rolling around on the carpet is enough). They only spray round the edges of the rooms, but their water based pesticide is strong enough to kill all known fleas dead. I defo recommend telephoning the council, even if they charge you, it's well worth it.
Yes I once was infested by a visitors dogs and was horrified as I don't even own an animal. My local council came out fairly quickly and sprayed the whole house and touch wood have never seen another one ,mind you my visitors were never invited back either :rotfl:

lol - I can imagine JackieO. TBH I think a friends dog brought them to our house - but she's a good friend so what can I say?
I'm so annoyed at myself for not keeping up the treatment on my dog - at least then the blighters wouldn't have lasted, but we live and learn eh?

Hi all. I discovered one of my indoor kitty cats had fleas last night, although the other one mysteriously doesn't have them. I've given them both flea tablets tonight and the one with the fleas is busily scratching away furiously as the little blood suckers die.

Tomorrow I'll tackle the house. Do I need to use a fumigator, or can I get away with washing and hoovering? We live in a flat with laminate floors (no carpets at all) apart from a couple of rugs and have leather sofas. My plan was to hoover everywhere inc bed and sofas, then through out the hoover bag. Then I was going to wash all the soft furnishings, bed sheets etc. I've not seen any fleas apart from on the cat, but I don't want the flat to be infested. Do you think the cleaning will be enough and are there any natural treatments we could use to get rid of them. I really don't want nasty chemicals in the house, and I wouldn't know what to do with the cats whilst we did that, as they don't go out.

Thanks in advance for your help!

FWIW, Sam, my old springer spaniel, long gone but never forgotten, was regularly covered in fleas, mainly due to his habit of being where ever he wasn't supposed to be

I used to lay him on his back, legs akimbo, and simply pick the fleas off his underside with a pair of tweezers, killing the little b******s in the process! The only problem I ever had was when I did it one night after everyone else had gone to bed. At about 1 o'clock in the morning, my mum came down wondering whose voice she'd heard. Apparently, every time I caught one, I was saying "Ha-ha, die you little ******* !

Is it any wonder I turned out like I did :D

Just posted in the flylady thread. I used RIP Fleas (after using others without success) worked great, cheapest at the time was from https://www.wormers.co.uk. Vigilant vacuuming etc is a key also. Using it on the rugs and down the cracks in the laminate flooring etc.
One day I might be more organised...........
