    Ok I'm a tad giddy!

DH got home from work with the post and he has received a letter from police (used to be a PC) and basically every year they got a retainer bonus (for not joining to MET) and because he worked till June for them, he will still get a proportion of it, and so on the 22nd December, he will get £600!!!!

Not sure what he might have planned for it, and I feel a bit bad asking him to use it to pay debts down because he went through a lot in the service so part of me thinks he deserves it for himself, but then........... another part of me thinks, 16k of the debt is actually his..... so he should be using it to pay down the debts.....

I really hope he comes to the sensible conclusion himself.
We both get paid early from our jobs in December, so he said he would probably need that money to see him through January but I dont really see why?! I know waiting 6 weeks for a payday is tough, but we get paid this week, which should always last till end of month, so as long as we leave the early december pay alone till the end of the month, then it all balances out?

    Whooohooooooooo :j

No blinking retainer in our Force though

Maybe split it, could do £400 debts and £200 on something for you two, best of both worlds then :D

    thats true....
either that or we use this for the deposit for the new place if the agent gets his butt in gear and gets hold of the landlord.
I really want to make sure we get the deposit back from the place we're currently in, as we put it on DH's 0% credit card so would be nice to get best part of 1k back to pay it off again.

Im getting a bit confused with all the rents etc. need to sit down and work it out, and see what options we've got...

Good idea could use that as your deposit and then use the other deposit when you get it back for debt busting or a little treat.

It's all getting very confusing I agree lol

    :rotfl: Right the letting situation...

Current Place : 1 bed NB flat, £650 a month, contract expires 19th January
Rent is paid on the 20th of each month from our rent account, but the money for rent gets put into rent account from wage account on the 1st of every month.

Rent for December (paid out on 20th Nov), rent for January will pay out on the 20th Dec from rent acc, and this will come out of wages acc on 1st December (actually get paid on the 26th Nov)

    Hopefully that makes sense....

We have to give 1 months notice on current place, so will write that as soon as we have agreed details with new agent.

New Place: awaiting confirmation on rent and let, to include a washing machine, rent is likely to be £575 a month.
Deposit is likely to be one months rent + qtr.

The deposit we paid on the current place was just shy of £1k. This we would get back when the contract expires so circa 20th Jan.

So ideally we pay up till end of contract on new place (Jan 19th).
From Decembers pay we can pay rent on new place (get paid early in December, round about 20th) and say move in from 1st January, and pay deposit either by DH's bonus which is paid on 22nd, or if we need to pay it earlier than 22nd to secure property to start paying rent on 1st january, can pay it from credit card and then pay that off with DH's bonus on 22nd. So that would balance itself out

Then when we get the deposit back on current place we can pay that off the credit card (0% apr) when that is released to us at the end of current contract (20th Jan)....

So that would be us all set and ready and not incurring any debt (actually paying some off) however does mean we would be paying 2 rents for about 19 days, but it will all be paid from seperate pay days so we're not hurting ourselves too much there.

    PHEW!
    Does that make sense?
