hmmmm never thought of egg free mayo....
Im so excited I'm making myself some dinner solely based on having some mayo with it! after scrutinizing the packaging which has in large bold type MADE WITH PASTEURISED EGG -safe for pregnant women LOLWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Ha CAFCGirl, wait until complete strangers come up and snatch that mayonnaise off you. Yep, happened to me several times. As long as food is pasteurised, you can eat it!
Advice on what to buy. Firstly, don't buy anything yet. You will be shocked by how much is bought or offered to you. Hopefully get parents to buy one of the big items for you. When baby is born people turn up with clothes and vouchers. Make sure you sign up to all the baby clubs (inc. Tescos even if you don't shop there all the time). I'm sure there is a pregnancy board somewhere on this site..
On maternity clothes, if someone has got some in their wardrobe in your size, take them. Maternity clothes are so expensive and last year they were horrible!
With my first we went and bought everything brand new and it was very expensive and most of it wasn't used. Now on my third I have learnt my lessons and try not to be swayed so this is my initial list of what I have for a newborn:- steriliser, bottles, powdered milk, bottle brush (if you are breastfeeding and if you can do it as it is free and a damn sight easier and cheaper than bottles, you will need breast pads)
- nappies & wipes - I have finally converted to reusables and no it is not difficult as they get thrown into the washing machine. Own brand wipes are perfect.
- vests and sleepsuits - Tescos sets are brilliant and cheap.
- muslin cloths - ideal as burp bibs, comfort blanket, wiper-upper!
- sleeping bag - well known name is BabyGro - use this instead of blankets - baby stays nice and warm and does not wake up from the cold. I always buy mine new (I only buy one) but plenty on eBay.
- scratch mittens (they scratch their faces otherwise), hat
- outdoor jacket/cardigan - I had a reversible coat bought so two items in one.
- pram/buggy - I originally had a 3 in 1 model and hated it so opted for a pram that can then convert into a buggy later on. Use the pram during the day for baby's naps. I have one blanket that I cover baby over with.Get parent to buy or help with purchase.
- bag - having spent £35 on my previous one, I got one free from the boots club and sold my other one. Check the clubs first before buying. Loads on eBay.
- Moses basket/cot - if you can borrow either do it. Make sure you buy a new mattress. They won't be in the Moses basket for long (if at all!) but can also be used during the day.
- chair bouncer - for use when they are a little older. I have one but don't like them as baby gets warm. better lying them flat on floor on a blanket.
- car seat - don't get second hand as you don't know what accidents it has been involved in. Got mine form Mothercare - not great but baby not in it very often. Most can convert to a baby chair.
- dummies - I wasn't going to use these but they proved invaluable.
- baby bath - I didn't bother this time - I have used the sink and learnt that their skin doesn't like too many baths or chemicals. Plenty of samples from baby clubs etc.
Any other advice? Ummm, get ready for everybody having a piece of advice for you. My advice is to switch off and enjoy your life as a couple while you can. It really does change when a baby arrives...I'm still getting over the shock of it and my first was 8 years ago!
