Stokke - tripp trapp good value?

my in-laws have kindly offered to buy my dd a highchair as she will be starting on solids in a few weeks.

i can't afford to make a mistake like i did with the pram and end up having to buy another highchair later.

so after hours and hours of research online i think the one i would prefer is the stokke tripp trapp as it will blend into our existing furniture (vital when you have a small flat) and doesnt have a tray ( we want her to eat at the table from the beginning).

the added plus point being that it will 'grow' with her and that we can purchase additional cushions etc

can anyone offer any positive or negative info on this highchair? any info would be very gratefully received.

thanks in advance?

I have friends who have them, and there are mixed feelings about them. As they can't fold, they take up room. They don't seem to be as easy to clean as something like the IKea Antilop. You have to buy lots of extras, such as the baby set for little ones.

I love the look of them, and drool over them on a regular basis...

However, we went with the Ikea Antilop as a starting measure (£12 from Ikea without tray) so that I could clean it throughly after DS had got food everywhere. http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00069725
As he's now 18 months, at some point I will get a highchair that had movable footrests and is more useful as he gets older.

http://www.backinaction.co.uk/tripptrappbuy is the cheapest I've found new, but there is thriving second hand market in them on places like ebay if they're not for you.

If you like the design of the Stokke there are quite a few other brands that make this type of high chair but not as expensive. Look at the Kiddicare site for some examples. The Babay dan version has some great reviews and is £59.97. May be cheaper somewhere else

We have a Moizi 1 high chair bought from Mothercare.

    http://www.moizi.de/english/produkte/kinderundjugend/index.html

IIRC it's discontinued in Mothercare now which is why we paid £50 for it rather than about £150, but it is excellent and for the money we thought it offered better value than the plastic fold away ones. It can't be folded away, but we consider it an extra dining room chair.
  • Best baby item we ever bought!!!

With first child we had an all singing and dancing one but one so bulky and terrible to clean. We bought a tripp trapp when daughter was about 18 months and wish we bought it straight away. It is sooooo easy to clean. We then bought another one for DD2 and used the baby set - again so easy to clean the cushion cover (not necessary) washes lovely in the washing machine.

I'm pregnant again now and there is no way my children are parting with their chairs aged 2 + 4 so we will be buying another. It's not just good for eating but they are the right height for colouring, painting and baking etc.

Although they are expensive (we had ours as gifts) they are worth every penny and they seem to have a good resale value on ebay. Another thing to add is that my children have very good table manners and many people have commented on it and i believe that a lot of that is do with that they felt included at meal times (we always sit together as a family!!)

    Hope that helps!

My three children still use their's every day - and they are now aged 9, 6, 6. We only bought them when I had tried other highchairs with the twins and found it time consuming to clean big bulky highchairs. Then we bought my dd one too as they were so good. We just check and adjust the heights every six months or so and they still look in great condition. They are fairly comfortable for an adult too and are very sturdy. They are very expensive but have been worth it in my opinion.

I got this one when I had DS after having had a really expensive but nightmare to clean one for DD - it's fantastic!! Not only is it cheap as chips, it's a breeze to clean and DS is two and a half and still uses it. I never used the tray though because it's the right height for my table and unlike the old chair I had, the Antilop comes right up to the table with no gap. Best baby product I bought!!

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end
