    Many thanks Johaaled.
How long do you leave them for in the slow cooker?
Wouldn't about ten minutes or so in a hot oven crispen the skins?

  • hi

i am fairly new to slow cooking and hav the small argos one.

can i make jacket spuds in it?

If so, how and will they be crispy or is it no different to doing them in the microwave?

    thanks

    clara.x:j
  • They wont be crispy and i must admit have never attempted to do mine in SC as i love a crisp skin,so i always do mine in the oven.

  • I have tried .and it does not really work. The best way todo Jacket Potatoes without cooking for hours is to microwave first and blast them in the oven afterwards to make the skin crispy ...mmmmmm!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • thanks,

I guess it was wishful thinking to imagine coming home to crispy spuds in the sc!

I'm sticking with the oven, it's the skins that count!

I thought I read on here that you can cook jacket potatos in a slow cooker.... is this true??? How long for and do you need to put anything in the bottom with them?

    Thanks

(tried searching for jacket spuds but failed miserably!)

    Hi ymcas,

We have an older thread that should help so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Can't see the point myself. How hard can it be to stick them in the oven for an hour ?

Surely the hint is in the name? BAKED potato!

They'll never go nice and crispy if you slow cook them. And as thriftlady says, they're hardly difficult to prepare.

I can't see the attraction of 'roast' chicken in a slow cooker either- it will not roast or bake anything. Slow cookers are brilliant for making the most of cheap, tough meat and steaming puddings without steaming up the whole house, but for most other things an oven works really well ;)

If you want hot baked spuds ready when you get home from work try the timer facility on your oven.
