I am looking for somewhere in London for 4 of us including 2 children. Is it possible to use the hotel bidding sites when you require a room to sleep four?
Just scrolled down and it looks like the answer is No for the UK (thanks Blindman post 19)[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

Hotwire allows you to choose a room for 2 Adults and 2 children0 -
Can anyone help? I have read Blindman's guide it is very helpful.
I have been trying to get a Hotel on Priceline for Athens for 4 nights 6-10th October and have gone up to £47 so far.
I have selected 5* and rebid same amounts for 4*.
My max bid is £65, I have checked out BB and BFT and the previous winners seem to have wins from £40 - £60.
Are my current bids too low, what does everyone think? I don't want to make a huge jump to my max bid just yet.
Thanks in advance.

You rarely get twin beds in my experience in NY, but would be worth contacting the hotel after being successful to make this request.
.
Depends on the hotel grade. I've *always* got rooms with 2 beds in Manhattan with Priceline. I've just called the hotel and requested it direct. It's never guaranteed of course and these were mainly 4 and once 3 star.
We booked 20 Priceline nights last month in total and every single one was 50% of walk in rate or less-this was in California and Utah. Vegas we didn't even bother with Priceline as it's the one place there are better deals available elsewhere.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

There are some hotels where you would not get this - the W New York, for instance. You could certainly increase your chances by researching the most likely wins, but it is still taking a big chance.Gone ... or have I?0 -

1) Have you checked current rates for those dates, are they high?
2) Have you checked the results on Hotwire to see what they have?
:- I have and only a 2* at $46 or a 2.5* at $76 are there.:-
3) Have you booked a cancellable back up?
4) Would you be prepared to split your bid?0 -
I have had a very bad experience with Priceline and would like to make all other moneysavers aware. Basically Priceline does not tell you what additional charges might be incurred it just has a general policy in that you may have to pay for additional services. We have booked a 10 day stay in Las Vegas and got a room the the Trump Plaza for £87, however priceline failed to telll us that there is an additional $14 per day charge for parking so the deal isn't that good, especially when all the other hotels have free self parking.
THEREFORE BEWARE OF ADDITIONAL CHARGES THAT MIGHT BE INCURRED OR STAY AWAY FOR PRICELINE LIKE I WILL.0 -

Priceline can only give general advice as many of the hotels have different policies:
The link Taxes and Service fees on the page where you input your bid is where this general statement is:.......Depending on the city and the property you stay in, you may also be charged resort fees or other incidental fees, such as parking charges. These charges, if applicable, will be payable by you to the hotel directly at checkout. When you check in, a credit card or, in the hotel's discretion, a debit card, will be required to secure these charges and any incidental fees (phone calls, room service, movie rentals, etc.) that you may incur during your stay.
This is a common occurrence with higher star hotels. In the USA it is usually better to bid on 2* or 2.5* in some cities (LA spring to mind) as their parking is either free or relatively cheap rather than the 3* or 4*.
Better luck next time.
I have added that warning in Red on my guide to emphasise the point
Did you post your winning bid on Betterbidding?0 -
I have used the .com website successfully with a Uk address. Enter your UK address and in ZIP CODE enter 00000 or 99999. The US website has a much larger selection of hotels worldwide (not all available for name your own price however) .. Also, always write or phone directly to the hotel if you need a specific bed arrangement. We travel with 2 children and always need 2 doubles (check your possible hotels have such rooms available doing a direct rate search before you bid).. Another is tip is always book a suitable back up hotel which you can cancel when you've got your priceline hotel booked. Best deals on priceline are done one to 2 months before your date of travel.
Hope that helps someone to feel the way I did the first time I got a $300 room for $80! Go on, do it, it works!0 -
i know priceline works.. i just got a hotel in london for next fri/sat nights, 4*, normal online rate for the 2 nights £250, my price, including pricelines fees and wotnot, £160... that, is a reasonable bargain in my opinion, and i called the hotel and they explained that the onstreet parking nearby is free after 6pm friday....
i had to be put through to the concierge, rather than speaking to the person who answered the phone.. *LOL*
