The Childrens Mutal along with Accucard are offering the ipledge credit card that offers up to 0.8% cashback which is paid 6 monthly into a high interest deposit account in the name of your child. Also relatives can have the same card and get their cashback paid into the childs account. You also get discounts from retailers such as Argos when using the card online.

Hihi, I feel well cheeky today ;D! Just went to NatWest, Nationwide, Abbey and Halifax branches to enquire about children’s savings accounts.
NatWest – asked about the freebies kids get for banking with them, was told you get an Atlas for older kids and a 123 numbers book for younger kids – both Dorling Kingsley books. I told the CA that we already had both books (a fib :-[), and that we had seen that they offer a Piggy Bank or Digital Organiser for opening an account. She knew nothing about this – so I put on a really disappointed face and say ‘oh dear, my daughter was looking forward to opening an account here’, at this point my daughter did actually look disappointed too! :-/ Anyway, she said she would go and ask for us – she then came back a long while later with a Piggy Bank and Digital Organiser and just handed them over to my little girl!! ;D Hadn’t even opened the account with them either – not bad hey ;D. And, once she gets £10 in her account, she will get a voucher for a free book, which will make a good b’day pressie for someone! ;D
Nationwide wouldn’t let me know exactly what was in the gift pack, just looked like a load of leaflets from what I could see – CS not good too good either >:(.
Abbey told me they offer a teddy – which the CA had no idea what it looked like – and something else that he couldn’t remember! The CS was fab there. I never realised they closed at 4:30pm, we left at 4:50pm and at no point did they rush things to make me hurry up and leave! Infact the Manager and counter assistants actually played with my 1 year old and 7 year old while I was talking to the CA!
Halifax had very poor CS. I was spoken to like they were doing ME a favour!! And I was told to book an appointment just to speak to someone briefly about the account >:(.
Needless to say, will be opening an account for both my little girls with NatWest, Abbey and of course A&L – loads’a freebies and money in the account for them too ;D ;D ;D.
Ally
Ps. Maybe the freebies that NatWest offer need to be updated to books Martin?
BTW - the Digital Organiser is fantastic - you just press a button and it unfolds and props itself up!! Daughter is absolutely loving it!! ;D ;DI can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -

According to the Nationwide website the Smart account it is open to 0 to 17 year olds. http://www.nationwide.co.uk/savingsinvestments/short-term-accounts/smart_account/default.htm
Our daughters have had Nationwide accounts since pre-school. At 11 they can have a cashcard.0
