Just checked with BT again - they confirmed that the 'up-front' payment method was not available to the basic w/e anytime plan users.
Looks as though I will have to start my 'moneysaving' search again!

They are telling you porkies it is available and they advertise it here

A good question. I'm sure Heinz knows the answer.

Wondering the same thing myself, signed up end of June, I would have thought that them changing the price you contracted with them would be a breach of the terms you signed up to.

  • BT are making this Line Rental Saver much harder to sign up with. Signed up for my Brother's house no problem. Now I try the checkout and it no longer lists the total as the hundred and x pounds but instead shows the £12.76 per month option only and the installation fees. On discussing this in the chat window that pops up (and saved this transcript) the person said I would get the option after sign up. Still suspicious I reluctantly signed up and lo and behold I see an option when fishing in one of the emails I've been sent but when clicking on the sign me up it says - "Oh you don't have the service installed yet despite being issued a temporary phone number." So it seems we have to wait 'til the service is installed (over two weeks away) and then recall which service I require and order it on the install date.

    Be careful out there!

I'm considering moving my home phone to O2 to as I use them for my mobile and broadband and find both excellent. Let us know how they do. I think I have a little bit left on my BT contract to go. BT would keep more customers if they didn't have stupid rules like making 2 calls a months to qualify for free 1571 and caller display!

I have o2 broadband (& mobile making it cheap!!) & have just moved house. They're having problems with their system. When I initially called up they could've taken over the line that was still active in the property. 2 weeks later & I'm being told there's an £85 pound connection fee!

They have issues with their credit check system, which can delay the process & is how it came to be that the line in my new property was stopped! BT could've moved my line in the wkend I moved but o2 were quick to offer me home phone without their systems being fully in place. Now BT are telling me the 3rd week in October is when they can reconnect me, by which point I'll be in breach of contract with O2 broadband & liable for the disconnection fee of £135!!!!!!

I now have no home phone or broadband (haven't since the 18th) & I'm wondering where to get the best deal once I have vented at O2 & stopped them from taking my money!
Until this I actually loved O2.....maybe I will keep them if they can reimburse me satisfactorily for this inconvenience.

Suggestions would be great people. I have a Wii, PS3 DSi & laptop, so require v.good internet.

  • My sister has had a phone call from KINGFISHER TELECOM offering line rental and inclusive UK calls for about half the price of what she's currently paying TalkTalk (although TT does include broadband, which she doesn't use).

I can't find out anything about this outfit - Googling reveals they may be Indian, mainly serving Asia including Oz.

Well, she's signed up with them, they say they'll handle everything and all she has to do is amend her DD. She has a 7-day cooling off period.

I'd be most grateful for any info/opinions on this.

My Google search found THIS - which shows a company by that name was dissolved in 1999.

However, it also produced http://kingfishertelecom.com/residential/residential-telecoms.aspx which appears a little more promising.

Interestingly, the company states its inclusive calls are to 01 and 02 numbers only - so they are in breach of Ofcom rules which specify that 03 numbers must be similarly included.

Their Call Rates page is very sparse on detail too - what are their 0844 rates for example? All 6 diferent rates should be listed. None is.

However, I would have thought a cold call offering "half the price" would be a classic 'too good to be true' warning to everyone - it certainly is to me.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • On the Money Saving site Primus and Plusnet are stated to be the cheapest Phone/Broadband/LineRental package available.

The problem I am having is that Plusnet seems to need either a Plusnet or a BT line to connect Broadband to.

Is there a way around this or is it not possible ?

I am wondering the same thing here too.

Don't know why NOT Tiscali, I'v been with them over 12 months, not a problem ever, BB speeds of over 6MB. with line rental, broadband, all calls to 01/02 numbers anytime 24/7 and free international calls to 10 top countries, I would'nt move unless they paid me.
Remember, you only ever hear of the bad reports, guess I'm one of the lucky ones. And all this for £19.99pm

I have to agree. I've been with Tiscali for years and have had very few problems. A very reliable internet and phone service and good internet speed. BT are always phoning me to try and get me back with them, but I won't change from Tiscali at the moment.
  • I'm about to move into a property that I may move out of in 6-8 months and wouldn't be able to take any deal with me--hence wanting to escape signing myself into a deal with in-built penalties now

I have been with Virgin for some time now and i also only require 6 months contracts due to moving.

I have switched to HWU Technology and they done me a 3 month contract with no credit checks and line rental for only £9.95.

I emailed them at sales@hwutechnology.com and they gave me the best deals. Best thing is my calls only cost 2.5p a min. Day or night and weekends.

Also they dont advertise this on their website but just email them for details. I did.

Hope i have been some help.

(p.s i do not work for HWU i am just a customer)
