tv rental with Boxclever

Anybody thinking of tv rental be careful of Boxclever. My tv stopped working so I contacted them about a repair. No problem, an engineer was sent out the next day (my final holiday entitlement) but could not fix the problem. He said he had to order a replacement and I told him I could only take delivery on a Saturdy. He telephoned from my house but was told there was a problem with a Saturday delivery and he told them to get a manager to phone me after lunch to discuss this. 3 hours later and surprise surprise no phonecall so I phoned them. Pleasant lady answers as says yes it's booked for Friday!!!!!! I now have to explain no holidays Saturday only blah blah blah.

Now I'm put on hold, eventually she comes back saying they don't do Saturdays in my area!!!!! What kind of service is this, when do they think people go to work. I then tell her ok just cancel my order and collect the equipment and also tell her that it can only be collected on a Saturday. She now gets on her high horse telling me I have to be available for them when they want to collect it. Are these people mad? Have they not heard of customer service. So I tell her politely but in no uncertain terms that I'm cancelling my direct debit and the equipment is available for them to collect any Saturday.

Now I'm put on hold again this time for several minutes. She comes back on the phone saying as a one off gesture they will come right out of their area on Saturday to supply me with a replacement but I must be aware that they will not come out on a Saturday again. I will be cancelling as soon as my existing hire period is over. I would advise people to steer well clear of Boxclever if they are thinking of tv rental.

Am I being unreasonable?

    Hi there,

I dont think you are being unresonable. There should be some sort of give and take.
If your going to cancel anyway do it in writing rather than by phone. Explain the circumstances and ask them to contact you in writing.

My OH mum used to rent from boxclever until we bought her a new tv.
Thankfully we did not have a problem cancelling her account. But it took her a while to get used to not having a tv from them, due to memory problems.

Actually, I don't think you're being unreasonable, because you already took a day of holiday for the engineer to come out, so shouldn't have to take another one, as it's not your fault the TV they rent you doesn't work! Taking one day off is being more than generous!

I do think you're a nutter for renting a TV though! You could either save up for one, OR... go on freecycle and get a free on that someone's giving away, OR... get a cheap second hand one!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If you like the replacement tv, wait until your contract expires and ask them how much it would be to buy it.

They used to sell them cheaper to people who cancelled

Wouldn't it just of been cheaper to buy a second hand tv in the first place,in that case?

I think she is being unreasonable tbh

So she is never available at home except a saturday? What about public holidays, what about other people at home , what about sundays, what about evenings, what about a shift swap etc etc

It is give or take but it seems to me by imposing a day she knew they didnt do she was being as obtrusive as possible

They don't do Sundays or bank holidays and don't forget I've already given up my last day of holiday entitlement for the repair. Evenings would be fine but they tell me they can't say when they will turn up on a specific day. I live on my own and I'm the only person doing my job where I work so no shift swaps etc etc. Further more they have always done Saturdays in the past so this is a service that has been removed without telling customers so I was not imposing a day that I knew they didn't do.

Moving on, today thay phoned to say they'd changed their mind and wouldn't be coming on Saturday. I said fair enough just cancel the agreement and collect the defective equipment. The lady said someone would phone me back. Any guesses as to whether or not they did. Correct, they didn't, so far that's three promised phone calls not received and one email not answered.

Can anyone tell me where they have purchased a tv and received excellent after sales service. I accept things go wrong but I can't accept poor service.

    Like delivery drivers for example?

You need to put your cancellation in writing, and send it recorded delivery, otherwise they might continue to take money, and send the balifs in when it's not paid!

Small local independent shops usually give you better service, but it'll cost more. Personally I'd just look on ebay and find someone selling one locally, so you can go round and pick it up (see it working), then pay cash. Or look on freecycle for someone that wants to get rid of one.

  • Get a free tv on freecycle,, there is almost always someone giving one away.

Go to the site below and find your local community

Edit: just noticed the post above mine about freecycle,,,, whoops
