Using Waste Oil to run Central Heating

It does look good I have seen a couple of "Home Brew" ones on Youtube using the atomisor technique - It produces a big flame with some impressive figures, 2 hours burning per litre of oil.
i had to do something about heating my house last winter with the price of oil. i made a boiler to run on engine oil of all grades and it also burns vegetable oil from chippers etc . it cost me about 300 euro to make. it uses about 5 gallons in about 9hrs or so. it heats 13 rads which are about average size and all the hot water for six of us during the day . the only part of it thats electric is the circiulating pump . we have one in two houses and their working and heating the same as a boiler that runs on kerosene :rotfl:0 -
hi can you give some idea how to make one of these burners we have a big wood burning fernus which also heats the water but want to change it to one that we can burn used oil can u help ,what will i need0

i built a house recentley in n.ireland with normal central heating system. The house owner got a converson done recentley to waste oil burning and cut his costs from 3ooo grand to 1500 in a years burning. The down side is you need an air compresor to force the oil in to boiler which is very noisey,Its like someone in your house with kango every 20 minutes for 10 minutes which after a short period of time gets very FRUSTRATING. IF you have your boiler out in a garage on its own in the country it should be okay but this houses garage is joined to the house and the short time i worked in this house at the end of the project done my head in !0

I have been doing some research into waste oil boilers for central heating and have come across several options available in UK but I would be very interested to know which boiler the house in Ireland uses and how are they finding the cleaning issue with this boiler.0 -
I am looking for some information on waste oil boilers for running home central heating. I have read several articles about this on U.S. sites but I can't find anything in the U.K.
I would appreciate any information or advice.
Check out freetherm in Germany. I purchased a burner from them recently euro 1460

I run cars on veg oil and have looked at doing it in the home.
First bit of advice I'd give anyone is source your oil.
You want to spend a considerable amount of money on a WVO boiler, you need a good supply (or two) and space to stockpile it in case the supply drys up.
The hardest part about using WVO is getting a good regular plentiful and quality supply.

Try these people. very helpful, but EU waste regs have been interpreted differently in Scotland, England and Wales and Ireland !
Their boilers will burn all oils (which can be mixed) including kero if you run out of waste. But getting a decent supply is the key. This lot deliver cleaned up waste oil at 25p per litre. But you can mix in garage oil etc . However it must be water/brake fluid/battery acid free. It just stops if not, although no harm done.
The smallest boiler is about 40kw and is a basic pressure jet boiler with a pre heater so that all the oil is heated up to 160F and blasted in. It would be noisey in a garage attached to a modern house. But brilliant in a shed or out house and just hooks onto existing plumbing like changing any boiler. .

I've been looking into waste oil boilers for some time. My family business (in N Ireland) is "traditional" oil heating e.g. kero, so this could be a good add on and allows customers to avail of cheaper heating.
We have sourced several good waste oil burners, typically commercial but will also work in domestic. Expensive in comparison to standard boiler, but pay off can be quick if access to either free or very cheap (in comparison to kero) oil.
NB - Not all boilers can burn all oils.
I have access to many millions of litres of waste oil so got quite excited about the opportunity.
Unfortunately the emissions license has so far stopped this being a commercial venture, bear that in mind before you spend any money!0 -
