We get the tins, our dogs usually have Winalot tinned stuff and this is just as good, if not better! & cheaper!

The black tins in gravy or jelly are what we buy.

  • Our dog loves the tins & that's saying something because he's quite a fussy eater.

I haven't tried it (on my dog, that is:rolleyes: ), because it's full of additives and other sh!te that are the cause of many canine health problems. If children are given junk with too many chemicals, it causes hyper-activity, obesity, etc, etc - it's the same with dogs on processed food. Have you thought about giving a natural diet?

We get our dog food from Costco although it is available elsewhere (for much more!). Autarky is the brand name, and it's £10.99 for 15kgs! It is VAT-exempt on account of it being supposedly for working dogs but our 2 min. schnauzers love it! A total bargain, especially as we were previously feeding them Royal (rip off) Canin, which was costing us £25.50 for 8kgs!!!!!! Autarky is full of herbs and HUMAN GRADE chicken. Highly recommended if you are a Costco customer.

Have to echo the autarky recommendation!

I have 8 dogs (I know mad!) and they all eat this, all have fantastic coats, no skin problems and their poo (sorry to anyone eating at the same time as reading this) is smaller and firmer than on other well known brands.

In addition it has a bucket load of herbs and holistic stuff that boosts their immune system. We feed ours the senior as they all get a bit porky on the working dog, and in the hot weather they are all a bit lazy, but we have never had an issue with it, and we have one dog that has to have a beef and gluten free diet.

We bought it when it first came out but the company that was doing it went bust so I was very pleased to see it come back out.

As for the OP, have you thought about seeing if your butcher does dog mince? Mine does and it is basically all the offcuts that he cant sell (like the discloured bits of the beef that has been hanging for 21 days plus) minced up and frozen into blocks. Works out far cheaper than tinned food, and is better for your dog, mix it up with a bit of gravy, any leftover veggies (not potatoes) and your dog will be in heaven. ;)

I'd be surprised if any dog didn't like it, as most kids like McDonalds or sweets, but can they live on it without any long-term health problems?

IMO dogs, which are carnivores, should eat raw meat and bones, not processed rubbish.

I do totally agree with you but my dog does not. My butcher gave me a bone for her once, when I got home I gave it to her,not on the floor because she won't eat anything from the floor:confused:(she thinks she is a human!!) Well the look on her face she was genuinely shocked that I had given her a raw bone!! After lots of attempts she was having none of it so I cooked it in the microwave and it was gone in a flash. You just can't win with dogs if they like it they'll eat it if they don't then it doesn't matter how hard you try and don't even get me on the topic of worming tablets!!
