does anyone know if you can use the 10% discount you get with the egg money card in the apple store along with the additional 8% you get through the student apple store?
Come to my garden in South Bucks and i'll find you a wasp...

Hey Jr666.
I wouldn't have thought that you would be able to use both discounts at the same time either one will probably have the condition that it is not valid with any other offer, but it may be worth investigating.
You may be lucky if this has not come up before so there are nothing stopping you. I have done it before when I have gone to buy something on special offer, and still been able to use a student disount. This was in staples so if something is on special offer, you can still use your 10% student discount - worth knowing as they supply quite a lot of computer stuff (but there are some things the student discount isn't valid for like computers and high end stuff like that).
I would think it depends on who administers the 10% discount you get with the egg money card - i am assuming that it is apple themselves rather than egg. If it is egg then you will more than likely get away with it as I don't think there would be a way for them to know if you purchased something through the student store or not as it is the same company (not a 3rd party reseller) but the student store is meerley an administration thing so they can market it specifically to students.
I must admit if you are buying an apple laptop - I am somewhat jealous.
On a similar topic, when I was at Loughborough University, there was a student online computer store which was had some knocked down prices and you accessed through ATHENS. I only found out about it when I used the drop down menu for the subscribed resource list on the Mozilla Firefox Athens toolbar, but I have now graduated and started another course at Sheffield Hallam University and I do not seem to have access to it anymore.
Just my few pence worth, hope this helps someone, somewhere.

8% on the Apple store??
I ordered on campus and got a £720 iBook 12" for a little over £600!!!
Though it was a uni campus and I know apple give different discounts for different institutions. Though try going to their education page while on campus and see if you get a better discount, they pick up your IP and if its on a registered campus network you automatically get a discount.
Oh and I got free delivery too -0 -
not sure what your talking about. ibooks are £699.00 at the moment, with education doscount they are £656.86 that equals about 7-8% discount last time i checked. The RUMOR that if you order through a uni IP you get bigger discount is rubbish. I've yet to see or hear of any uni that advertises a bigger discount than the standard if you order through their campus network.
Ordering through the NUS website would be at least the same as any university computer department could offer (indeed its prob better) since the NUS has more sway with Apple than any single university computing shop could have.
i refuse to believe that unis can offer bigger discounts than the NUS website link, or indeed the apple website itself, prove me wrong if you can

through the higher education site (logging on through Edinburgh Uni IP) the 12" ibook costs £601.60 inc VAT and 14" ibook costs £782.55 inc VAT.0

The student discount is usually the same either way you access it (~8%). If its through your university network, the discount is still there - but you need to add VAT. Some universities must get special rates compared to others.
Regarding the egg money - you need to access the apple site by clicking the link on the egg site and then there is no option to enter the educational store - so I don't think you can use both offers at once.

has anyone ever tried this and it worked??? please let us know!!0

if anyone wants to try it:
the page you need for student discount is http://store.apple.com/Catalog/uk/Images/routingpage.html
(but you do need to access the relevant page via a uni's IP)
and the egg link is an affilated link:
http://clk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=2554&a=1134429&g=0&url=http://www.apple.com/uk/go/egg05
I suppose it could be possible that using something like the following might work:
http://clk.tradedoubler.com/click?p=2554&a=1134429&g=0&url=[adding eventual apple url from student link here]0 -

Yes this does work.
I have just bought an iPod nano clicking through from the Egg website and then used the schools education option. This was the one retailing most places for £179.
Paid £164.50 to Apple and got £16.45 back on my Egg money card = £148.05.0 -
I have just tried the link from the NUS site and the link where you have to be on an .ac.uk host (internal Uni network) and the prices are exactly the same.
cheers
