Impressed with Pipex offer

Just thought I'd share this offer Pipex had just given me. Now, for a change I'm impressed with them, but a year back I had major problems with them, but did pursue and managed to get 3 months free out of them (although technically I'd paid it before since they charged me for a dis-used service!) and was sick of them, so rang up asking for my MAC code tonight as a nice chappy from O2 offered me a B/B package for £17.50.
In a bid to keep me on their team, the Pipex guy offered me this rather appealing package deal. Up to 8Mb (I can only get about 6 anyway), unlimited downloads, free wireless router (which isnt neccessary so I could flog it) and telephone line with them, with free evening and weekend calls, all for £4.99 for 3 months, then £9.99 thereafter, in a 12 month contract.
I told him I'd have a think (and see what the O2 guy says) so he's given me the name of the deal (which I might share after I've taken them up on it) and although I still cant stand them, considering I'm currently paying BT £10.99 for line rental, and Pipex £17.99+ p/month (on top of additional usage since I'm capped!) I'd be stupid not to take them up on the offer!
What are people making of this? Pipex being a bit shoddy aside? Believe me, I dont need to be reminded how bad they can be, see some of my older posts for proof, but to me this deal is superb!

Don't take your phone line with them. See my other posts on my experience with Tiscali line rental (same company)0

I would get that offer in writing and confirmation that it does include your line rental and inclusive Evening & Weekend Calls before even thinking about accepting it.0

Not sure what I'm looking for specifically Paul? Can you point me right, or explain why in this post? I too am very underwhelmed by Pipex/tiscali/whoevertheyarenow, but with this price they've very much drawn me in. If its a loss in service thats your problem then that is a concern. Any horror stories are as appreciated as some good ones!!!0 -

I did this earlier this year - phone line would not work properly, calls disconnected, crackled and cut off, caller display did not work all the time, 1471 and voicemail were intermittent. Tiscali sent 3 Openreach engineers and each one traced the problem back to Tiscali's equipment. Tiscali eventually admitted they had no idea how to fix the problems, released me from the contract and paid £350 compensation after I asked for £500. Not until after they had disconnected my broadband three weeks before BT took the line back over though.
My advice - stay well away and tell all your friends to do the same!0 -
Hi Paul, was thinking of joining Tiscali for Broadband and Phone, but now I dont think I will bother. Thanks for the info. I am looking for cheap package of both, any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. Thanks0

I went back to BT. Paying them nearly double what Tiscali charged but it works perfectly and in my experience their customer service is excellent.0

Thanks for the reply Paul. BT is good but a bit pricey for me. At the moment I have Virgin, but I like to download tunes now and again and don't fancy getting threatening letters, so I think its time to change.0

The price is to good to be true. Have you got it in writing what it includes.0

Only what the retnetions guy told me! I asked him to give me the code for it and he did, not sure how long its valid for. I'm really tempted to get O2's deal when its in my area (£7.50 p/month as a customer) but the roll out might take till later in the year.
After hearing the horror stories, and knowing my own Pipex experience I'm loathed to go with them, but the price is so tempting for someone who is proper skint at the moment!! I cant justify it though, no B/B at home would be untollerable, especially since we're also looking to move so use it almost every night, and I dont fancy paying BT hundreds to go back with them if this does all go the wrong way up. Might have to knock it on the head. The only thing is, does a company exist which is reasonably priced, have good customer service, a loyal user base and arent gonna mess about and make a hash of things? So far I've not found a group of people to tell me that company 'x' is any good, only that most arent!!!
Its confusing being in the broadband market eh?! :mad:0 -
