NOooooooooooooooooooooo (sorry to scream!)
Please don’t touch them – they are useless! Their incompetence has even made regional BBC (Look East) – see separate article – and still cause me headaches 18 months after moving and taking them on as our supplier. For your own sanity avoid them like the plague.I came, I saw, I did a little browsing.0 -

I guess when you say "them" you are talking about Powergen and not NPower (fingers crossed)???0 -
Yup keep away !!
See my thread "powergen are a shambles "0 -
I moved from British Gas earlier this year. They really are thick.............It me over four hours of phone calls to sort out numerous problems.
I was paying by direct debit, they asked me to pay by card via a local store (they sent a payment card).
They took over 4 months to move it, and only actioned it after my chasing.
They took double payments, before I told them to amalgamate the accounts Gas and leccie). This took two further months.
The whole service standard is a joke with foreign untrained call handlers. Even the UK ones don't have a clue!!!!!!!!!!
I have stayed with them due to a good capped deal. They are good as long as you don't ask for a single thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
I called Powergen the other evening to ask for the direct debit amount to be changed because I doubted it was anywhere near right (far too high). The call centre woman answered the phone quickly, politely and was very efficient. Took time to explain a couple of things and overall I was very happy.
Justs got the first bill and again, no problems at all (I have been taking readings myself weekly).
I guess time will tell, but I think most companies perform poorly for some people and well for others.
First time they mess me about though they will know about it :-)0 -
In spite of all the trouble with Powergen which they assured me had been sorted out, they have not, I rang today to told that we do not have an electric account with them......thank God I am switching to another company......
DO NOT SWITCH TO THEM WHATEVER YOU DO THEY ARE RUBBISH.

Yeah definatley stear clear of powergen!
They've only ever sent us debt collectors letters or red bills we've not recieved ANY normal bills ever! They've lost our payments when we've paid by bank transfer. We're also getting suspiciously high bills for our 2 bed terrace with energy saving lights, A rated appliances etc.. They won't even check when we phone up and tell us that it's a normal bill for the time of year!
We're now shopping around for someone more reliable to supply our gas and electric.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0 -
So who ARE the best gas/electricity supplier for both service and price right now?0

We are still having problems with powergen after moving onto their dule fule. This was nearly 5 years ago.
We were pottering along with Powergen and were told that it was cheeper to move onto their dule fule system which I duely signed upto. However they - for reasons known only to themselves decided to send gas bills to a completly different house. So i was paying the DD amount without worrying about it, when they suddenly turned round (after 2 years) and told us that we had not been paying for our gas and that they were going to take us to court for a bill of over £1000!!!!
We are still paying it off, and because of the huge arreas they wont let us switch companies
We brought in energy watch who to be honest were as useful as a chocolate teapot, who just said that it was our fault for not checking our bills thoroughly. I now go over everything with a fine toothed comb - so at least it has served as a lesson - but even so *argh*
However there is now light at the end of our tunnel. Sadly my husbands granny died last year, however with his inheritance we will be debt free by the end of the month *cheer* AND we will be paying off Powergen and moving over to a cheeper company - who with any luck will not be quite so incompetent.
Good luck with Powergen, and make sure you keep an eye on them!0 -

Changing DD'd they can just about do. I'm just in the process of changing from them. As someone said, the foreign call staff have been poorly trained. I am fed up of frustrating phone-calls. They won't send me a replacement box key so I can read the meter - something they seem unable to do. Phoned twice, the first woman said they didn't send them out (er, they do, unless its a new policy) and the second guy took 20minutes to find the 'right option' on his computer - and I think he just fobbed me off in the end. Phoned BGas and they are sending me one out today!
My last issue was not getting statements, even though I phone up to give my readings - and the computers always seem to be down when I call!
I've been with them for 3 years and they are rubbish. I thought NPower were bad at my old house, but I would say they are first rate compared to Powergen!!!!
Moving to British Gas through Quidco. I am going to assess the estimated £30 a year increase against the frustration of not being able to get issues sorted out. Not so much money saving as sanity saving!!!! I get £25 back through quidco so can afford to reasses in a years time.
