  • Sounds great. I haven't found a silicon loaf pan yet but was in John Lewis yesterday and found a sweet little 1lb loaf tin and a silicon mat for it to sit in. Will give it a go tomorrow.

Sounds fab - crispy crackling? Did you use the rack, BB?
  • Are they cheaper to run than a slow cooker ?

I have had my standard remoska for about 12 months now and use it most days. The window in the lid has always been loose and slides about, should it be like this?
  • Hi JackieO I think slow cookers run from 75 to 300 watts (please someone correct me if thats wrong) and the standard remoska is 450 watts, it is on for a shorter length of tim so I suppose would cost less but I'm not sure on this one, does anyone else know?

Hi Millie, My lid is completely stable and does not move at all, maybe its faulty? I'd give Lakeland a ring.

Bit cheesed off about the grand TBH, I was planning on using it this weekend for family coming round so will have to replan the menu as I don't want to use the oven. Its not just the energy costs its the time it takes, OH suggested roast beef in oven but I can't be fagged to stand around all day and scraping out mucky tins forever and a day! I'll just wait until it comes and do something else.

JackieO, not sure about the running cost, but I'd think that a Remoska would be more versatile than a slow cooker.

Millie, I don't think the glass should slide about - mine doesn't.

Desperate Housewife, just think of all the gorgeous things you could do in your standard. I can understand you being cheesed off, but don't resort to the oven. Step away from the oven!
  • Ok. I have just ordered a standard. Also a rack, a seperator, a shallow pan and a recipe book. :j

I struggled to decide what size as I have two daughters and a husband who all work away. I never know how many will be here and what time. I sometimes sit until eleven at night starving to death so that I only need to put the oven on once when they come in. Or I just have toast

Am hoping it will make the randomness of meal times cheaper and more healthy by not using fan oven and actually eating a cooked meal.

Can't wait until next week now.:T

So did you all get your silicone things from £stretcher? I couldn't find silicone sheets on lakeland site.

Great, border collie - you'll be watching for the postie every day :)

I haven't got a silicone sheet in mine, but some Teflon coated paper I got in the local hardware shop. It works really well, although probably it's not as thick as silicone, and it cost a couple of pounds for a big sheet, so not as expensive as Lakeland's magic liner.

silicone loaf pan £1.99 in home bargains
    xx

If I make bread rolls in the bm do I then just put them in the remoska and switch it on and the time it takes to warm up 'proves' the rolls or do i need to wait then put them in once theyve risen. And how long approx do they take?

I'm sure I'm cooking things longer than I need to but they taste ok anyway. OH had liver (I had a Kiev) last night and said it was the best he'd had, which says a lot for 10 years of cooking him liver lol
