Sorry to be lazy, but to save me trawling all through the original thread, can some kind soul let me know what "size" of mixture I would need to cook a Victoria Sandwich cake direct in the deep pan of a standard 'moska, without it coming out like a biscuit, that is? I need to make a birthday cake this weekend.

I should imagine it's a minimum of a 4-egg mixture, but could be more, I guess. Some idea about baking time would be useful, too, if I'm not being greedy.

I have a foil polo-mint on standby in case it starts to brown too much around the outside.

I have been humming and harrhing about getting a remoska for a while now. I know I am asking the converts, but is it really worth it? Is there anywhere I can get it cheaper than Lakeland?

    Thank you.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Most of us on here LOVE our Remoskas, so perhaps you need to start a new thread called 'Does anyone HATE their Remoska' I am sure there are a few out there, but thay don't make a lot of noise on here. I don't think you can buy them anywhere except at lakeland, but I do know there are people who've got them cheaper from there because of damaged boxes etc. I never see any like that when I go - tho I keep on looking ? They do seem expensive, but I so seldom use my big oven now that it has to be worth it in electricity costs. But you can also cook such nice stuff in it and it's all so easy and less washing up etc etc - don't get me started ! HTH
  • I love my Remoska, very rare that I use my main oven nowadays.
  • I haven't used my big oven at all since I got my Remmie in January - and it's been used frequently! Parsnip "chips" are a huge hit - peel the parsnips and cut into chips, toss in a bag with some oil, season and pop in the Remoska, cook from cold. Ant mix of chopped root veg and shallots or leeks works well. Sea bass cooked beautifully, stayed really moist, I'd put some lemon slices in the cavity and basted with lemon juice.

I'm going to have to use the main oven as I have a frozen goose to cook (not used at Christmas) and I'll be timing how long it takes to come up to the right temperature, I think that if you allow for this, the Remmie can come out faster.

One other benefit that I hadn't anticipated - I've got glasses and can lift the lid off the Remoska to check progress without my glasses steaming up, as happened when I opened the oven door to take a look!

Hi I find that a thre egg cake mix gives a nice size cake, I usually cut it in half to ice etc (only two of us) but for a proper cake would bake two
  • I love the Remoska and have cooked all sorts of things in it. I find toad in the hole turns out better in the Mosky than any other way of cooking it. We wrap bacon around each sausage and pour the batter over and more or less forget it until it's ready. It's gorgeous.

Am going to try baking shortbread in it - does anyone have any tips? I haven't tried biscuits in the Mosky before.

Like the person who uses Spry we use something similar - Fry Lite - for roasties - beautiful.

I can also vouch for the brilliant customer service from Lakeland. I moved to Ireland where my Mosky developed a problem. I e-mailed Lakeland and was advised to cut the plug off the old one and they sent a replacement very quickly.

I use my cooker now and again and at Christmas. Mosky earns its keep and, between that and my beloved pressure cooker, my cooking costs are kept to a minimum and we eat very well.

Just wanted to share my good fortune, bought a Remoska at a jumble sale at the weekend for £1 and it works:j. Needed a good clean but never thought I'd be that lucky so now I have one for my caravan when I buy it.

On another point I started to place the lid face (non-stick) side down on my cooker top when adding or taking things out when cooking but have noticed that this is wearing the coating off so beware if you do this, I treat it gently and as has been said before the non stick could be of a higher quality.

    Have a good week everyone.

If you are in/can get to Harlow, there's one on ebay for £31.00 at the mo, strictly buyer-collects. Auction ends 21:28.

    Tuesday 7th April, that is!
