Natwest £50 savings cashback loophole

  • I have set up the NatWest e-Saver and was sent the pack. Returned the pack with the SO form which was printed for Barclays (my current acct).

As nothing came off my account at end-August, I phoned NatWest and had a little quarrel with them but they insisted that NatWest would be doing nothing about the SO, I had to do that with my bank. Of course, I have a problem in that I don't have PinSentry to set up the SO with Barclays/and couldn't find my password for the telephone banking.

Am now awaiting my revised password for telephone banking maybe 3 days, and the pinSentry will only arrive in 6 days. So I've asked for a transfer from a different savings account to put in £100 for now.

Any views, I know that this isn't obeying the terms and conditions, as its not technically an SO, but just wondered ....

    Thanks

Similar experience here Jennifer_Jane - they seem to have ignored/lost the standing order form sent back with the application, said it's nothing to do with them & should be set up at whichever bank the payment originates

Well why did they send the standing order form?! :wall:

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with this and whether I'll qualify for the £50.

I set the account up a couple of weeks ago. Sent in the paperwork with a cheque for £1. The account has been set up and I can access it from internet banking, but the cheque has not been cashed and the account is showing a balance of 0.

With my main bank I have just set up a standing order to pay the first £100 into the NatWest account. Should I set the first payment date to the 6th, or will it be ok to do so after (before October 4th.) Will NatWest be able to see that a standing order has been set up even if the first payment is not due to go in until October?

And with no account number written on it. :wall:

Anyone whos interested, card and card reader arrived today, took just under seven calendar days, just need P.I.N now.
  • Crabman, Jennifer_Jane, I had the same problem. Natwest say that they must have sent the SO form off to my feeder bank, but no evidence of that. Natwest suggested I set up the SO direct with my feeder bank, and assured me that it would still get me my £50 even though they weren't instigating the SO process.

I suspect that they have been overwhelmed by demand and their admin temps (do banks use temp staff ?) can't cope.

Daps, at least they've not cashed your £1 cheque! I did the same, and my bank says the £1 cheque has been cashed by NatWest 3 weeks ago, a week or so after they received it.

My monthly standing order has appeared in the account balance now, which is good, but the cheque is still lost. Keep an eye on what happens with yours!
  • Just to add to my earlier post, I had previously phoned the NatWest helpdesk when I received the pack, to ask about the missing account number and sort code and was assured that the SO would be sent to Barclays.

So when I phoned again with the SO not having gone off, and was told quite adamantly that I had to do the Stop Order myself, this was contrary to a) what I had previously been told, and b) the logic of having been sent an SO to send back with Barclays printed on.

Incidentally, the £10 cheque I sent with this has been credited to my NatWest account, and is now worth £10.01.

    What a mess!

  • Can anyone help

How do I withdraw my 1st £100???!! I've set up my SO and Natwest have taken and credited my 1st £100 but now I want to withdraw it but the website is as clear as mud. My current Account with the SO is with Halifax.

Do I need to phone up to get my money as I don't want a card or card reader. Surely there is an easier way online to take out money but I can't find it.

I went through the online process of withdrawing cash and was told a card reader was needed.

phone up, they'll set up a payee for you and after that you can pay online.
