well I have started it! the cutting out was fine until I got to the middle bit...then it all went wrong! I used OH's craft knife and don't thing think the blade was sharp enough so the edge is all jagged. have attempted to stick paper round to hide it! am now looking for pictures to stick on it - thomas the tank engine! still it's not bad for a first attempt and for a really non crafty person like me (don't think they will ever be as good as all those on here but OH says they are good so that's something!)

bunbun - I got into all sorts of pickles with my door hangers (as rainmac will tell you............lol)
Did you wait until it was all dry and then cut the middle out ? Thats how I did mine for a start and with some paper it was ok if it was thick but others it frayed .......OH rubbed some fine sandpaper round the edge and that seemed to smooth it off and make a lot of difference.
After a few mishaps I cut the hole out before I stuck the paper on the hanger..........just drew the circle and with pair of scissors went from the centre of the hole to the edge. Still had to trim it off once it was on but I found it easier.
Think we all find our own way with these............lot of fun once I'd got into it so don''t let any mishaps put you off.:j

here is my first door hanger. I need to sort out the middle bit as it is still a bit jagged but am quite pleased with how it has turned out.

bunbun - that looks brilliant :T Love the paper

I get the feeling that come baby grandsons birthday I'll have to do another for him.
I did a 'santa please stop here' on one side and 'sshhh.....nap time' on the other but I'm thinking that it ought to be kept for Christmas. I'll see what his Mum says

bunbun, that hanger is fantastic!!! I've scrutinized your piccie and can't see any jagged bits, you've done a fab job, well done :T

To be honest my latest Xmas ones are a bit rough in a few places :o cos I need a new craft knife but wanted to get them done so cut them with my dodgy knife, should have waited really but think they look ok.

rainmac - would be helpful if you can come up with these little 'projects' a bit earlier................stop me going bonkers and having a panic -having said that, mine are done and with time to spare................:T

I just can't wait to see what ideas come up.........sock monkeys been done, things in jars, door hangers....flannel cakes...........is there anything left ?

thanks rainmac and mary. I really enjoyed making it and am now on the hunt for papers to make hangers for my two boys. any recommendations on where to buy papers would be good. I bought the Thomas paper from the local scrapbook shop as I needed it for this week but will compare prices on line.

I don't think there's much left to be honest mary, I think I may do some rehashes of things I've done this year but give them to other people.

I'm going to have a go at scrapbooking as I haven't done it before but have all my bits and bobs to do an album for me, just need some more photos and time to sit and do it!

I'd also like to cross stitch more presents next year - I always have massively good intentions of stitching for nearly everyone but leave it too late to cram in all the stitching. I may start stitching in January and see how many I can do in 12 months!

Bunbun, Hobbycraft isn't bad for scrapbook papers - prices vary but you can get them from about 40p up to over £1 depending on what the paper is and who it's made by. My local Hobbycraft is pretty big and has got loads better as stocking nice paper in the last 6 months or so. Online - can be difficult to find reasonable prices as postage for 12x12 papers can be ridiculously high (I've seen someone on ebay wanting £2.25 p&p for one sheet of paper). I have recently got some lovely paper from this online shop - http://www.charmedcardsandcrafts.co.uk/index.html (loads of lovely stuff, if I was a wealthy woman I'd have bought the lot). They have got a sale/clearance section. I love this range - http://www.charmedcardsandcrafts.co.uk/acatalog/Basic_Grey_Archaic_Collection.html - unfortunately not in the sale section :-(
