Yes, i can not refuse accept payment of buyers with unconfirmed address. I issued the refund.

Isn't that the same thing as refusing to accept payment?

Devil's advocating aside, there's no way I'd risk £80 on a buyer with a split personality and no PP protection.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Why exactly is there the option to be confirmed or not? Surely everyone should be made to confirm their details then these situations wouldn't exist. Or am I missing something.

It's just the way it is. In most countries it is not possible to have a confirmed address.

It's all about PP cross-checking with your credit card people or bank that you are who you say you are, and you live where you say you do. So, for example, someone with a confirmed address might have difficulty falsely claiming that someone fraudulently used their credit card - because paypal know where they live, and if someone can prove an item was posted to, and received at, that address, they know there was no fraud.

For some reason they don't do it outside the UK and US

£80? Run away! Ok, maybe give the buyer a chance to confirm their address, or arrange an alternative method of payment.

Honestly it's this kind of thing that puts me off doing e**y these days. First there are those who can't read [STRIKE]the "confirmed addresses only" bit in the listing[/STRIKE], and then you end up running a Paypal education service about why confirming your address is a good idea. :rotfl:

Not everyone is able to confirm their address. Can sellers refuse to sell to people with unconfirmed addresses?

I never fund my payments with a credit card anyway, so it makes little difference to my seller if I have a confirmed address or not (though I guess they don't know how I'm paying).

I'd be interested to know how many buyers pay with a credit card and how many PayPal disputes there are verses credit card chargebacks. Anyone know?

I have been on ebay since 1999 and have family and a number of friends via a group I manage with long standing ebay accounts. Not one of us has ever had a proper credit card chargeback.

However, many of us, myself included has had a paypal claim (chargeback) for either item not received or SNAD. I think therefore that credit card chargebacks are rare.

It must also be remembered that ebay do retain the right to close accounts where people do a chargeback via their credit card..it says it fairly on in the terms and conditions. So that would probably limit them to only very high end goods where the seller is scamming and item fails to arrive. Any other claim for non receipt would go through paypal.

What is the risk to post item to unconfirmed address? Is there any risk to post to such address if the sender of this payment is Non-US - Verified?
Why do I often run across my buyers with unconfirmed address? I have stated clearly in my listing that I will post item to only paypal confirmed address. Thanks.

I think my buyer probably has confirmed address, but he wants to post to one of his different addresses. What should I do in this case? Give full refund and resend invoice to request payment? thanks
If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Once a buyer confirms their primary address all further addresses added are automtically confirmed. I have 4 confirmed addresses on my paypal account including a hall of residence at uni and a holiday let cottage..
