Every mobile phone user should ask questions of there network about what they are doing to protect us from the text scammers
A contributer of The-Scream forum did just that a few months ago, it was a definate NO from all networks, including VF. '3' were preparared to bar all OUTGOING short codes, not much point in that as the problem lies with INCOMING short codes!
No one wants to do anything to protect mobile phone users from these thieves. MP's, MEP's, DTI, City of London Police (Although they said that unfortunalety their hands were tied under the law. PP+ have to ask them to investigate), Ofcom, Otelo, PP+ (As PP+ are funded and run by the PRS industry you can't really expect anything), Serious Fraud Office, Trading Standards Office, Watchdog, TV, newspapers and radio. I have contacted all of these and a few I have left out, most never bothered to reply.
The fight goes on :mad:0 -
But if Mobile phone users did it on mass. Especially if they indicated there were looking to switch to T mobile who does offer the bar then maybe they would have to take action.
Just an idea!0 -

A very good idea at that.
But for every 'one' victim that posts on a forum or calls their network to query the unknown charge on their bill, there are countless that either;
1) Don't check their bill
2) Can't be bothered to follow it up
3) Are put off or believe it when their network say that they must have subscribed to the service
4) Are on PAYG and the don't have an itemised bill and have no idea that they have been a victim of a scam
Sometimes we are our own worse enemies, sadly the scammers and networks are aware this.

Yet again VF have acted in its normal arrogant manner

VF customers have been asking questions on the VF eforum as to why there is a delay in the promised 1.8.08 start date for the bar on short codes.
VF's response was to close down the thread!
Don't you just love the way VF shows respect to its paying customers.....

LETS ALL MOVE TO T MOBILE!!!!!!!
VF really are crap arent they!
Any real debate and they close the thread. I'm sure a lot of the so called users on that forum are vodafone employees in disguise!
Patience........yeah right i think they have had long enough.
What I would like to to get out of my contract NOW and not wait anymore!0 -
charge to account bar now active.......i would urge all Vodafone users who dont wish to risk being scammed to phone 191 and have added to account!0

Thanks MRS TO BE. I think they should take a line similar to the banks. The maximum you should be liable for before you report your loss is £50.
A nice idea but it would be abused. People would rack up a stack of calls and then say the phone was nicked and they only just found out.
It happens to some degree now.0
