Vodafone have told me from 1st August 2008 they will finally be offering a charge to account bar that you can have placed on your account to protect you from unsolicited premium rate texts.
I would urge everyone to have these put onto their account to protect you from a shock bill for hundreds of pounds!
T mobile already offer this service and finally after far too long Vodafone.
The other networks don't so its about they they were lobbied to take action too.
***************vodafone are now doing bar frm 1st Sept 08....just called 191 and its now been applied to my account*************

Does anyone have any experience of this service working with T mobile.0

Good morning MRS TO BE,
I moved to T-Mobile for the reason that they give the option bar short codes, easy to set up online by just checking a box. A few weeks ago I found that it works very well when I received 44, yes that's fortyfour, premium rate texts in two days and they were all blocked.
The down side was how T-Mobile responded to my requests to discover which of the premium rate theives had obtained my details. After three weeks, four phone calls, two letters and five e-mails I am still waiting to hear from them. So even though they offer the option to bar short codes the customer service follow up is as bad as Vodafone and Three. I hope someone from T-Mobile reads this.
At least the bar works. :T0 -
What about setting a total limit on bill costs?
I rang today and apparently this is not possible.
I really don't like walking around with what is an unlimited open wallet. When I connected to BT at home there was a limit imposed to keep things reasonable and apparently it is available with other mobile providers.
If someone nicks my phone and racks up £thousands I'm liable even though they have done nothing to protect the consumer.
Totally unacceptable.0 -
what about o2?0

I agree with you Miller about being able to set a limit. They used to do it but have now stopped as they said due to the 72hr charging period it was not reliable.
Personally I think its a cop out.0 -

Thanks MRS TO BE. I think they should take a line similar to the banks. The maximum you should be liable for before you report your loss is £50.
Vodafone accept ideas through their eForum. I think this site should push to protect vunerable people (i.e. everyone) from Vodafone and impose a reasonable call limit.0 -
Of course they could put a limit on the account, but they choose not to as they make much more money.
I would gladly have a bar on my account set to Zero so once my minutes were used the phone would be barred, but then they would argue you should be on paygo.
Premium text ....are down right criminal in first place. What other service can steal money off you in that way??0 -
Vodafone accept ideas through their eForum.
Vodafone only accept ideas through their eforum as long as it agreement with VF's own policies, as I have discovered.
Some months ago I posted a thread on the eforum asking why VF did not allow its account holders the security of blocking short codes, thus protecting accounts against the PRS thieves. My post was subject to both personal abuse and ridicule by VF staff that I had noticed used this method to censore any anti VF opinions made upon the forum.
At first VF refused to agree to any form of blocking of short codes quoting technical reasons which were found to be a little far fetched. After over one hundred posts in favour of securing accounts and giving stories of personal frauds, VF had a change of heart. The thread was closed early by the Administrators and all the many post were removed except for my opening post and the closing post of the VF admin staff. The thread after only three weeks had over 6,000 veiwings.
So I am not so sure that VF accepts ideas through their eforum

mobile phone companies do put a limit on all accounts
They put a limit on all new accounts to ensure the account has not been opened by a crook with the intent to defraud the company.
After the company has received a number of payments that show there is a sap on the end of the account who is 'billable' the limit is 'switched off'0 -
Agree completely about vodafones E forum. Have a look at the response I got...username is Tania on there...do a search for my name. See how interested they were and how some other forum members shot me down..telling me to be patience. One of my threads was closed.0
