Cinemas

Does anyone else find a trip to the cinema a far less pleasurable experience than it used to be.
Last night i went to a local vue cinema. We had to sit 3 rows from the front at the side which meant i was looking upwards and to the right at almost 45 degrees. Not very uncomfortable and gave the impression they only interested in packing us in and takign our money. My main complaint though is the fact we had to sit through 45 minutes of adverts and trailers. Start time was advertised as 8:10 and the film started at 8:55. I find this totally unacceptable as i have paid to see a film and not be bombarded with a load of style over content marketing rubbish. I can accept they have reveunes to maintain etc can cope with 10-15 mins of adverts but 45 is over the top. Particulalrly as i paid 5.60 per ticket. They also had the cheek to charge me 50 p booking fee per tiecket for unreserved seating becasue i did it over the internet. Suffice to say i wont be going there again.
what does anyone else think

My local UCI seats are so old that your bum aches after 30 minutes. Next nearest cinema 30 minute drive :-[

i hate those plastic booster things they have for small kids too, they are so uncomfortable, 3 yr old always wriggles on them, says they make his legs sweaty.
  • Well today i got a reply to my complaint email and they have acknowledged that the particular film i went to see had extended adverts placed in by pearl and dean who book. This had only come to their attention through complaints. They are sending me a pair complimentary tickets to make up for it so i will give them another chance. Glad to see thoguh that soemone does read the complaints. I am not a vicotr meldrew and very rarely complain but this time it paid off

we usually go to cinemas that are around 30-60 minutes drive away because our local apollo is rubbish. it's cold and dirty, the seats are so dusty that we all get asthma before the end of the film, the toilets are freezing, filthy and covered in ancient black cobwebs, seats are uncomfortable, etc. etc.

so we'll drive to the odeon (45 mins, not an easy drive, i'm sick on the way but it's a big city so great for shopping) or going to a water theme park place, or to the UCI which is almost an hour away but has a skating rink and bowling alley nearby as well as a large indoor shopping centre and a fantastic park with adventure playground etc. or we'll go the the cineworld which is only 30 mins away and has a lovely pizza hut :-) depends what else we want to do that day i suppose. it's a shame our local's so rubbish but they don't have subtitled films anyhow so we'd have to travel for the subtitles (my step sister's deaf).

Vue is my least favourite cinema. The seats aren't comfortable wherever you sit, and they have the volume set horribly loud on most of the films so I come out with my ears ringing. Plus the way the steps are lit makes me feel giddy coming out. And don't get me started on the rip-off snack and coffee prices! Plus once they'd 'run out of milk' - well for goodness sake there's a 24 hour Asda nearby so why didn't someone go and buy some more!!!

I think the seats are most comfy at Cineworld. But we usually go to our local, which is a Reeltime, because my son works there and we can have two free tickets a week. ;D Plus the staff are all really lovely - always were, even before son started working there - and actually care that you should enjoy the film!
