Rising tide of bad debts will flood over banks

We have been going down that road for some time now - have you noticed how the media has been treating Moslems and Arabs over the last decade (started even before 2001)? They are now characterised as irrational nutters wanting nothing more than to blow us (and themselves) up at the drop of a hat.
We were interviewing a prospective tenant in Chambers a couple of years ago. He was talking about some of the work he'd done, and a paralegal job. He said he'd got a position through someone his father knew - and my Head of CHambers asked him if his father was a lawyer.
He was very reluctant to answer. And later told me he thought we'd turn him down when he told the truth - that his father is an Iman in a London mosque. I find that really sad.
He's a great tenant, though, as we didn't turn him down :rotfl:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I think you all think too poorly of the human spirit and people's will to survive. If there is a recession, expectations will be adjusted, and people will just find a way.
The mass of people are good and kindly. I doubt there will be any sinking into the pits of barbarianism if a recession comes.0 -
expectations will be adjusted,
I have to disagree. It's a generation [or two] thing. They have lived by the 'I want it now' and 'I'll pay whenever' code, it will be very, very difficult to adjust.0 -
Fine people. Now please tell me what i may call my fellow sentient beings who choose to kick down my door, rob my son at knife point, break into my car ?
I hesitate to ask what measures some of you would take to stop their behaviour!0 -

Little !!!!!!, if you like. But human....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I have to agree with this - just look at the DFW board - full of people who have overspent but are now adjusting their expectations and coming through the otherside - maybe its going to be a whole lot tougher over the next few years and I for one am annoyed that having been careful I am now caught because of those who haven't (i.e getting a cheap mortgage will be harder for everyone) but I can't see society falling apart as a result.
For all its problems I would still rather live in the UK than in many other places . . .:j MFiT Club Member 14 :jMortgage Outstanding 01 April 2007 - £51,051

but, they are a minority, the majority have not yet realised that it will affect them.0 -
Like mowgli, or wolf-children lolferal is nothing to do with wolves
feral means anything which is usually domesticated, running wild
You haven't seen the scallies near me.......... they've never been domesticated......and it's a perfect description for the feral hoodie wearing hordes infesting estates and town centres.

Some (small in number, but significant) parts of the cities have already sunk into the pits of barbarity in my opinion.
That's in a very benevolent financial climate with easy money via credit to buy luxuries, jobs aplenty for anyone who wants one and record tax receipts coming in to fund the benefit scroungers lifestyle.
Doesn't take a genius to realise what's going to happen when TSHTF with the economy. It's all very well to say that it will make people pull together but that assumes that there's a vestige of social cohesion in the first place. Most of the feral thugs on the streets don't even know what family cohesion is, let alone social cohesion.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -
family cohesion in many of the inner cities has been replaced with Gang cohesion. It's a health benefit ...0
