  • ..... when you buy basics loo roll/shower gel/shampoo then decant it into the posh packaging, knowing full well that if OH doesn't see the packet, he will never know the difference!
I do this!! Also do it with pickle, mayo and loads of other stuff!! Not cos of OH though, he's pretty good and is as moneysaving as me, it's for the benefit of friends and family that come round!! They'd probably die if they knew they were using value stuff! I know my dad would!!! :rotfl:

I pick up all the red elastic bands that the postmen throw away in the street. I'm thinking of selling them back to the Post Office.:D

... you take your personal laptop to work to charge the battery so you have at least 2 hours of free electricity / battery time when you get home. I also charge my mobile phone at work!

RE: the posts on the Remoska, that is interesting, I've never seen that before. However, by far the most energy efficient way of cooking is with induction hobs. OK, you have to fork out for one in the first place and make sure your pots and pans work on one. But they are more efficient than gas, they heat only the surface that is touching the pot/pan and get up to temperature instantly.

My mum's got one and to demonstrate how efficient they are she was boiling a pan of water on it and then moved it and held her hand down on it (without turning it down). Didn't burn her hand or transfer heat to it. I could go on all day about how good those things are!

Before the kids could read, if we ever came across one of those ride-on toys they have outside supermarkets etc, and they wanted a go. I used to point to the notice regarding the price, and say it said it was broken, and being repaired next week!!

Only works of course if no one is already on it!!

My nephew was nearly bankrupting me with these ride ons, so what I have done ever since is to put a 2p into the slot - it obviously comes right back out.......and then just tell nephew the ride's out of order!!!!

    Works everytime!!!!!

My sister used to have a payphone in her shop, years ago. She's always been careless with money. Anyhow, she sold the shop and she had all this change she'd collected from the phone over time (if it were me i'd have paid my phonebill with it, but not her!) The old 50p's went out of circulation and she was always going to cash them in, but never did, then she couldn't because too much time had passed. You know those circular chipboard bedside tables you used to get for about £7? Well, she had one, and glued all her 50p's to the top of the table. We counted out how much 50p's worth she'd stuck on but I can't remember how much it was now - but it was a lot! She never even used it, which it made all the more pointless. If she'd cashed the money in the first place she'd have managed to buy proper bedside table!

That's the opposite of moneysaving though, so I don't know why I posted it. :o
  • I only ever eat the fruit rejected by the rest of the family - apples with wrinkly skin etc. but mostly with little teethmarks courtesy of youngest DD. OK at home but can be embarassing at work - once had someone offer to put my lunch in the bin for me!
