I'm trying to kick my coke habit!

I understand completely! I am a "recovering" Diet Coke addict. I used to be hooked on Coke but switched to Diet for the fewer calories(which actually does make a difference) but it's still full of nasty sweeteners and bad stuff! When I gave up (I have done this numerious times:rolleyes: ) I got the headaches etc etc but I find that if you don't give it up all together ie. have it only at weekends or limit yourself to one can/glass a day then it's easier, because you know that it's not forbidden and you'll enjoy it more when you do have it.
As for substitutes how about juice/squash/ sparkling flavoured water etc etc?
HTH! Good luck!GC July £110/£97.21 already spent:rolleyes:
GC August £100/£87.98 already spent:eek:0 -
Hey peeps thanks for the stories and support!
I am thinking of the health aspects (I have put on a lot of weight!) and it sooo full of chemicals. And i was spending £3 - £5 a day on coke! It's just like smoking!!!
I've not got headaches, but I have no energy at the mo! And i'm a bit of a crouch to be around (withdrawal ha ha)! I honestly feel better tho. And my teeth feel cleaner! And i feel thinner but that is probably a figment of my imagination!
I'm not going down the diet coke route (morning sickness put me off this years ago - regurgitated diet coke looks horrible! sorry TMI!). I'm just trying to stick to squash and water! Although i have just had some fanta - whoops!
I even had water at a pub! Wow! and thats true moneysaving because it was tap water so it was free!!
It's amazing that so many people have experienced it too. Perhaps we should start a support group!!
Thanks again peeps,

I've been there with the coke, can't stand diet coke or coke zero or even pepsi it has to be the proper stuff. I managed to get through the addicted stage by buying cans instead of a big bottle, then allowing myself one can a day then one every two days. I now only get a can when ever we have a take away as i still have to have my coke with my madras, lovely.
However my father in law stopped drinking alcohol and started drinking pints of coke instead, hes now put on two stone.0 -
I am trying to give up coke again. My main motivator are my teeth and my main demotivator are the headaches I get when i stop. I try drinking lots of tea to replace the caffeine but i still get the headaches and no amount of painkillers help. I am so annoyed that I am in this situation as I didn't even drink coke til i was 18 and met my OH and all he ever had in his fridge was coke (so clearly its his fault;)) Ive got 2 bottles left and then the rule is none in the house, only am allowed it if going to a friends. I always follow my coke with water as my mum has kidney problems so h2o has always been minimum 8 glasses per day. Anyway wish me the best, to be honest I found giving up smoking easier and i did that cold turkey.Thailand 3010/15000 20150

I am in the exact same boat. I would love to kick my coke habit too. To stop the headaches try Tesco's Extra Power Pain rELIEF. They have Paracetemol, aspirin and cafeine in them. The cafeine withdrawal is what gives the headache.0

Cold turkey is the only way to go so stick with it and well done:T, in a few days your skin will bloom and just to help you along each can of coke has 13 spoons of sugar in it:eek:Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

I used to have a diet coke problem, I probably drank about 1.5L a day, ovbiously I heard all the horror stories and the risks of it thinning your bones worried me most but not enough to stop, I used to find that if I didn't have a bottle of diet coke first thing in the morning I would end up with a terrible headache which no amount of of diet coke or ibuprofen would get rid of. I cut down so that I just had a can in the morning and didn't drink it for the rest of the day, then when I went self employed it broke my routine a bit so I really cut down on my morning cans then. I eventually cut it out completely as I was having anxiety problems and I found diet coke was bringing it on. I feel much better now I'm caffine free (I don't drink tea, coffee or energy drinks) plus I'm sure my teeth, bones, brain and who knows what else thank me for it!
Good luck!
