Kaupthing Edge

I have opened an account with them but not yet put any cash in. I am getting a bit dubious about doing so.

I know my first £35k is protected, but all the time it is out of my hands if anything goes wrong, that is no interest.

I am starting to think I won't bother with these high paying accounts, opening them is a marathon. Two banks have sent back the certified copies, prepared in the way they requested on their info, saying they have to be re-done. I've told them to get lost, I will go with Tesco and Abbey and leave the balance of LloydsTSB at a lower interest.

Anyone else feeling cautious about some of these high paying new kids - or even old kids - on the block?

Not really, no. Personally I don't have an account with Kaupthing Edge, but would have no qualms putting my money with them.

Nothing there that's any different to any other bank then.

And this is just admin/customer service issues. Show me a bank that has no customer service issues!!

Oh jeez, spammers aren't even starting their own threads now. They have to hijack someone's legitimate question. B****r off with your bloody shoes!

I have an account with Kaupthing Edge.

Given the £35k guarantee, I have no qualms savings with such institutions to that level.

It goes without saying that the cautious saver should ensure that they have some rainy day money elsewhere (in one of the Big Four if you want to be ultra-cautious, given that IMO none of those would be allowed to fail) to cover the period between Kaupthing Bank failure (were it to happen) and payout under the relevant deposit protection scheme.

What exactly are you dubious about?

The customer support and quality is way above the rubbish in UK high streets, I've found them to be fast and polite.

The account works flawlessly, offering an excellent high rate of interest and simple to operate. If you are "worried" don't save more than 35K with them, personally I'm not, and have much more than that with them and intend to keep it there.

Abbey, you must be mad, worse bank in the UK. Would never save with them, read all the horror stories here and in the press.

So you would rather have a lower interest rate all of the time with a bank that exactly the same thing will happen to if something goes wrong... i/e/ it is out of your hands if anything goes wrong.... I don't understand the reason you are pinning a problem to KE?
  • I have just recently opened a New A/c with Kaupthing, and I have to say not had any problems at all. They too subscribe to Financial Services Compensation Scheme upto 35k, just like other Banks.
Personally I moved from Lloyds because of there low rates.

Only 1 think I would Like to ask, You can see the interest earned in a daily running total in the savings A/c, Does the same happen if you have a Term Deposit?

You can? I can only see my interest earned at the end of every month.

So true... do not touch Abbey with a barge pole as they are beyond useless!!!

Having said that after complaining about a credit card application that they screwed up I did get a £55 cheque this morning from them as compensation! :j

Ive just encountered my first problem with Kaupthing Edge. I made a withdrawal on Monday, entered withdrawal date as Tuesday but this has yet to appear in my current account causing it to go overdrawn. On the Kaupthing edge statement it is showing the withdrawal date as Tuesday.

The last withdrawal I made was exactly the same circumstances. The withdrawal date was Tuesday and it arrived in my current account on Thursday.

I have asked them why it is taking longer this time and waiting for their reply.
