Why would you want to spend £5.98 on something you can download for free?

I don't know about availability of SP3 on CD. My understanding is that SP3 is accumulative and contains all the previous upgrades from SP1 and SP2, so you could just install any vintage of Windows XP and then run the SP3 update to bring it fully up to date. No need to run individual previous updates. Dave.

Yes Dave is correct, from Microsoft:
Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system.

There is a slipstreaming SP3 set of instructions here.

My thoughts exactly. Life's expensive enough without incurring unnecessary expenditure.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a CD with SP3 on it? Or how do you set up a streamlined install, is it called slipstreaming?

nlite 1.4.5 was recommended on these pages, easy to use compared to all that command line stuff.

DO read the useful help pages first, and you need an SP2 disk and the full SP3 download (approx 300mb).
    Move along, nothing to see.

Similar happened to me when I first installed it. Was just the common AMD problem. Safe mode, disable intel driver, reboot, install SP3. No need for drastic restores if that's the cause of the problem.

I have an AMD machine and I installed SP3, my machine seems to be OK
(I think) and I did not do wha you suggested, not that I can actually understand it.
How specifically do you 'disable intel driver'?

Doesn't matter if it installed. It's only if SP3 doesn't install and your PC can't boot up any more because of it. It doesn't affect all AMD based PCs.

But as far as disabling the intel driver: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=12392577&postcount=16

I had problems with SP3 at first, but few days ago installed it from Windows Update and it was fine.

    Hi all

Still unable to install SP3 despite numerous attempts and following all the troubleshooting bits and pieces on the Microsoft website.
Does anyone have any sort of contact info for Microsoft?
Preferably one that won't cost me a fortune (a e-mail address would be ideal as I've made a note of all the error messages).
