So the BSOD issues I had with my Intel core 2 duo Dell 9200 could be motherboard related?
Depends on your motherboard. The intelppm solution is only for people with AMD processors. If you have an intel processor then any problems you're having are unrelated to the intelppm thing."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Just run the small app from MS from the link posted by Superscraper.
Tried to install SP3 again, still can't back-up 2 registry entries and still got a problem with "Access denied" to SP3 installer after it's copied all the current files to a back-up location.
Anyone any ideas?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
Just installed SP3 again, updated drivers for DLink DWL-G510 card and all seems ok.

I have no proof of this and it may just be wishful thinking on my part, but what I did notice when I installed SP3 was that it finishes off with a quite lengthy Cleanup phase which I assumed was removing a lot of the dross left behind by all those individual patches I'd previously downloaded under SP2.
I'd be interested to know if that really was the case. One of the reasons I've not installed SP3 is that I imagine it may (even though I'm fully up-to-date with normal updates) fill up my C drive with lots of SP3 uninstall stuff.Stompa0 -

But there's already loads of uninstall folders for SP2 and subsequent updates, associated logfiles and so on, unless people have decided to delete those as they'll never remove the updates, which I did a few months ago while whittling about 2 GB from the Windows folder. For people who have done it, does SP3 remove simplify or replace all that old uninstall stuff?
I've been offered SP3 today, and will read around a bit more before going ahead, after they offered then withdrew it last time.0 -

As far as I can see it doesn't remove the old uninstall stuff. I've installed SP3 and my Windows directory is still full of old uninstall directories relating to earlier patches.
Thanks for drawing attention to this, I think some heavy deleting will be in progress this evening.

I've been manually removing mine for some time. FWIW there is a utility intended for that purpose:

Does anyone know if it's possible to get a CD with SP3 on it? Or how do you set up a streamlined install, is it called slipstreaming?
I have a spare licenced copy of SP2 on the shelf, and it seems to me that if I get round to using it, e.g. on an Eee PC bought with only Linux or added to a laptop with Vista, it would be nicer to do a clean install of SP3 rather than go through a load of updates on the old version.
And I notice a folder called ie7updates, containing 6 folders each about 23 MB, and I'm wondering if those are update back-ups that could be removed0 -

I don't know about availability of SP3 on CD. My understanding is that SP3 is accumulative and contains all the previous upgrades from SP1 and SP2, so you could just install any vintage of Windows XP and then run the SP3 update to bring it fully up to date. No need to run individual previous updates.

SP3 on CD is available from Microsoft at a price of £5-95 i think. Seen it on their website. When SP2 came out you could get it for free. Was hoping the same will be for SP3. Will try to find the link for itProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way
